Shame the money didnt go to a much more deserving causes.
BUT the fact that they announce it so publicly...
Samsung donated on Nov 5, Apple did it on Nov 8.
This is pathetic...it would have been better if they donating nothing than donating a completely insignificant amount. This is literally the same as me donating 75 cents.
Indeed. This donation is for publicity only.
I wonder how much money the red cross rakes in actually goes to the people that need it that they feature in their commercials....
I wouldn't doubt if more than 50% of donated money goes to shore up their books and to pay the "CEO" her massive salary...
This is disgusting. 2.5 million for a company that has 100 plus BILLION in CASH! All you people saying its nice of apple have no logic for money and how much apple is really worth. You are talking about one of the biggest disasters in US History and apple throws a little 2.5 million dollar check on the table and says "ok we did our part"
Like someone mention earlier this is pennies. It's almost sad in the sense that most of the people who were effected own apple products and the best apple can do is 2.5 million?.
I hope whoever is driving the check over isn't using Apple Maps
Some people think this comment was a bit of sarcasm, and some think it is a horrible comment.
Let's ask some starving people in Africa if their next meal is more important than some people far away in a foreign land who all live much better than they do and chose to build so close to the ocean - which even starving people in Africa know is a dumb thing to do.
an email sent to Apple employees by CEO Tim Cook announcing that the company has donated $2.5 million to the American Red Cross in support of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Now I understand your love for old technology (i.e. physical media). At least you didn't say "Pony Express."
BTW - My customers pay me electronically.
Shame the money didnt go to a much more deserving causes.
I knew someone would have to complain about it. What cause could be more important than helping your fellow citizen in time of great need?
What a disgusting comment to make. What's a "shame" is your inhumanity.
Am I the only one who interpreted Sensation's comment as being in jest? At least I hope it was in jest.

It is so good to see Apple helping hurricane Sandy's victims. Although I have seen higher donations from private parties, it was a nice gesture. BUT the fact that they announce it so publicly, it is all for publicity, sad but true.
uumm..... if my stock was dropping this fast, I would spend my money and make something happen... not just keep it in the bank and keep my products stale... a 5 year old OS and 100+ billions isn't going to help your stock recover
Next earthquake in California, I'm donating 50 cents. At least I did something.
I suppose that's an improvement over Steve Jobs (i.e. his only charity was himself), but it's still LESS than pocket change to Apple (i.e. they could have given $2.5 BILLION and it wouldn't have hurt them a bit so I chalk it up to publicity/positive marketing advertising more than anything else and based on the responses here, I'd say it's working.
$90 billion in cash and only donating $2.5 million? Oh, that's cheap Apple, very cheap
I ask you the same question I ask others. what percentage of your worth did you donate?
Shame the money didnt go to a much more deserving causes.
So what percentage of your overallworth did you give to victims?
Please do your research before making claims like this. ABC did a blurb on this and it was shown that ~5% goes to administrative needs (salary, etc.) and another ~5% goes to logistics. Most of the rest goes to relief. My understanding is that 85%-90% makes it to the intended targets.

this is like me or you giving a beggar a few pennies, id have been impressed if it had 2.5 Billion with a B..
