That's the lesson Apple needs to learn. Samsung produces everything from LCDs to NAND and SoCs which makes them independent, whereas Apple doesn't own a single factory. Without Samsung, Apple couldn't make a single iPhone or iPad but Samsung would do just fine without Apple, so who is feeding who?

So your saying that just because Samsung provides Apple with components, which Appleays for, it is ok for Samsung to rip off their products?

That is a load of ********. If I went to a components maker, order parts and paid for them, that gives the supplier a right to just rip of my products?

Once again, Apples selfish and petty wars with former partners results in hurting their own customers.

You know...its amazing how you think that Apple is the only one at fault here.

While they are quite aggressive with fighting Samsung...Samsung is not exactly innocent in this "petty war". They did copy their design.

By the way...you should keep in mind that Samsung is not a former partner and so far, you have no clue if this will hurt Apple's customers. I seriously doubt that this will cause a price increase to any of the products currently available.

You two are joking right?
Think how many mobile device manufacturers there are out there. Do all of them use Samsung? Probably not which means there must be other sources of supply.
Samsung make batteries do they? Because I don't think that the Galaxy SIII would work too well without one. Samsung, just like AAPL are NOT independent.
This could be just the impetus a contractor needs to up their game and fill in where Samsung left off.
All companies go through this and the vast majority survive.

HTC makes majority of their components, So does Samsung, Nokia, the list goes on... it helps that majority of the competitors uses the Snapdragon processor

Are they nuts? Samsung needs Apple a WHOLE lot more than Apple needs Samsung!

First they copy everything that they sell from Apple products. Then they gouge Apple on prices.

Apple should Just Say No to Samsung!

Guys, if and when Apple leaves Samsung, it will have little impact on either company. Samsung isn't going to go belly up because they don't build for Apple anymore and there are plenty of manufacturers that build products just as well, if not better, than Samsung. The 2 companies will just part ways and each will be fine. This happens in business....it's nothing new.

Payback's a bitch!

This probably is a bad move on Samsung's part unless it was actually necessary. Apple might find a competitor able to sell at a lower price.

yeah, because low price is way more important than quality!

Ridiculous post.

1. No they don't.
2. Samsung doesn't copy "everything" that they sell form Apple products. Samsung manufactures dozens if not more products that Apple does in markets Apple isn't even in.
3. Apple doesn't have a choice right now

I suggest a deep breath and a dose of reality.

ETA: 4. They aren't gouging Apple anymore than you could say Apple is gouging you.

Samsung makes the BEST parts in the world.

it will only hurt apple in the long run to source out different components.

samsung doesnt care their mobile business is set to rival apples by that time

There is a GOOD reason why samsung is the ONLY successful android manf. in the world. They are the only ones who can rival apple in costs and quality.

Slightest hint that Apple will switch to another supplier, Samsung put's price up as Apple are totally dependant at the moment. Clever, I guess.
The realities of Purchase agreements. Apple has already started cutting back. You buy less units you pay more per unit.

Good job Sammy. Show the bastards how we do it in Korea

Ok. Let us see how you do it in Korea:

1. Americans guard your borders
2. Americans design the products that your companies "innovate" (looking at you samedung).
3. Americans buy your products

And then you call others 'bastards'. Yup, that's how Korea does it...

At some point Apple will just find a new supplier and it'll hurt Samsung more in the end.

Good job.

You dont seriously think they werent looking before this?

Apple have been trying to bring their entire supply line in-house to reduce costs. They already design their own chips, and have a number of different CPU production partners - this really isnt that big of a deal to Apple.

Samsung knew they would be moving away, so hiked the price up. Fair play to Samsung for doing it, I'm sure if the boot was on the other foot, Apple would be doing the same thing.

TSMC can do this as cheaply as Samsung

Price isn't the only aspect here. TSMC might not have the resources to fabricate enough chips for Apple, it's used by at least a dozen of other companies, some of which are big names (e.g. NVIDIA, Marvell, Qualcomm). TSMC is already having yield problems with every new process node and taking a huge brand like Apple on board would just make things even more difficult since Apple needs a lot of chips.

Screw Samsung. Calling BS on this article. But even if true, this will screw Samsung in the end. Those shady thieves deserve it.

Why do they? Given that Samsung's mobile market is INCREASING and Apple's is SHRINKING, Samsung couldnt care less about loosing Apple. Apple are planning on pulling away from Samsung anyway, so the best thing Samsung can now do is hike up Apple's prices for the remainder of their supply contract.

People really dont know anything if they seriously think this will hurt Samsung.
