how much for a maxxed out imac 27" 2012?

Unfortunately at this time none of us know. Prices typically don't change much from year to year. Last time I checked a maxed out 2011 was in the range of $3499(give or take). I hope this helps.

I would say....
buying a stock 27 inch would cost $ 1799.00 (no taxes included), 1 TB no Fusion drive, stock video card. And the 4 RAM sticks for around 200.00 (bought in kits of 2 X 8 GB), excluding taxes.
If it is a DIY, the above can be a rough estimate, I suppose

I won't be surprised if that is $1000 or so upgrade!
I am thinking that 768 GB SSD and possibly no internal hard disk to keep the heat down.
Gotta get that top end graphics card too!

When i buy a new iMac next year or the year after
I will want to upgrade it to
a 1tb fusion drive
16gb of ram
and a 2 gb video card.
i bet this will set back alot of kangaroo dollars.

With the 768 ssd and no ram upgrade it will definitely be around 4000$...but here in Norway with taxes and apples extra charge etc I will have to pay around 6000$ for that machine (which I'm planning to do). Just to give u guys a good reason why your prices are quite ok

+ 24GB RAM (32GB total) = 600$ (100% sure)
+ 680MX = 300$ (my guess)
+ 768GB SSD = 1000$ (my guess again)

What the hell........600$ for 32 RAM that is like £375 are you getting in put in by Apple? Where in my country they are roughly £89, put in myself
£89 for 32GB, that's a great price.
Just ordered 32Gb from Crucial for £111 which I thought was good. At least its definitely guaranteed by Crucial to fit the new iMac 2012 27"

Seems like a strange way to order 24GB..... I assume you already have an 8GB stick sitting around?
That means your RAM will be running at single channel mode, half the memory performance.
Get back to Earth, the performance difference between single- and dual-channel modes is not even 5%. Modern CPUs have sophisticated memory usage algorithms that eliminate the single-channel mode's disadvantage.

The iMac does come with 8Gb but they are in the configuration of 2 x 4GB
So to get to 32Gb you need 4 x 8Gb and that will leave you the original 8Gb (2x 4GB) over.
Hence why I ordered 4 x 8GB and got them for £111.58 and they arrived this morning

The 8GB left over from the iMac will not go to waste as I have a 4gb (2x2GB) laptop into which I can put the 2 x 4GB original Dram from the iMac and bring it up to 8Gb. From its specs it appears to take exactly the same memory.

So to get to 32Gb you need 4 x 8Gb and that will leave you the original 8Gb (2x 4GB) over.

How do you know if they will fit in the new iMac?

Yep. This is why I was questioning your choice of 3 x 8GB since the standard config is 2 x 4GB in Macs (to take advantage of dual channel memory)
