I have an 11" Air and an iPad Mini and love the combination.

But I can't do my work on the iPad alone so the MBA is important to me. But I do tend to use my Air at my desk attached to my monitor and keyboard a lot.

I just returned my 13" MBA 2.0i7/8gb/256gb yesterday for an ipad 4. I have an iMac at home and will be getting a Mac mini soon. Just didn't need the MBA and the ipad gives me what I need on the go. Plus I can read book, browse upside down, laying down, etc etc.

I may just throw down the extra cash and go with the same combo as you. I am definitely keeping the iPad Mini. Getting a souped up Mac Mini sounds awesome too, but I just like having the option of a portable laptop as well. I've been leaving the 11" MBA connected to my desktop monitor for a few days to confirm if I can live without a laptop, and the iPad Mini has gotten me by fine. But still like knowing I have that laptop option.

Well, I have been using the souped up 2012 Mac Mini for about a week now. I added a Crucial M4 256gb SSD into it and 16gb RAM. It really is nice and fast. However, with those additions, it's now within $150 of my 11" MBA. I do use the iPad Mini a bit more in the house since I have the MBA in the box prepped to sell. There have been a few occasions where I wish I had the MBA to use on the couch even though the iPad does 90% of what I need.
