AT&T "4G" data slow while on phone call with iPhone 5
Whether I'm in an LTE area or not, when I'm on a phone call "4G" is very slow for browsing the web, sending iMessages, etc. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have the same issue it's not usable. So much for that marketing Talk and Surf at the same time. It didn't use to be that slow. There was an article on engadget or something about AT&T now throttling.

turned off my LTE to test AT&T's so called "4G" and it could not even finish the speed test it was sooooooo slow....I thought they were only throttling 3G while on calls?

In Canada our iPhone 5's go to 3G while we make calls and back to lte when we hang up. Maybe your network is similar?

The iphone 5 does not support voice on LTE so it switches to HSPA+ when on a call. To make it even slower AT&T throttles the speed down to 1Mbps on a call.

I've gotten 7 mbps down when I did a speed test while on a call one time on AT&T. Surprisingly, in NYC on my way home. If you need picture proof, I will try to remember to do it tomorrow again.
I don't think AT&T is throttling your speed on purpose while you are on a call. I think it's just a limitation in the technology. I could be wrong though, but it only makes sense. I haven't done a speed test because I never thought about it, but I know for a fact that T-Mobile also slows your speeds while on a call. I was a tmobile customer at one point and remember experiencing that. |

Att does throttle while on a call. They have done it for the last 1.5 yrs. it's not tech limitation. It's att-naziness. See old post:
