iPhone 4 32GB. Good buy today?

Hello,

How are you?
So, I have been an android user since my first smartphone.
I currently have a Galaxy nexus running Android 4.1.2.
Currently I have been wanting to try IOS as I am a bit tired of android.

So I have the chance of buying a mint iPhone 4 32gb for what I think is a good price (£200).

My question is being the iPhone 4 an almost two year old phone, is it still a good buy today? How does it perform with IOS 6?
Will it lag?

imo, if you want the best iOS experience then you are better off with getting an iPhone 5 or at the very least an iPhone 4S.

You are one of the relatively few Android users I can say this to.

Don't get the iPhone 4 if you care about OS updates. You're used to timely updates and there is no promise the 4 will get iOS 7 (or rather how well it'll run/be fleshed out). Even iOS 6 has been stripped of some "big" features to work on the 4.

What big features are those that were left out?
So, an iphone 4 is not a good deal?

You'll have to forgive me I can't search all what was left out at the moment but Turn-By-Turn comes to mind. That wasn't included. Also, 3D Flyover (although that feature serves no true value).

A big let down was no facetime over 3g but jailbreak solves that.

start off with the 4S and nothing less than that, as the other poster said, the iPhone 4 is lacking some features of ios 6 (turn by turn direction, fly over 3D, panorama mode, Siri, etc)

And of course the obvious is the internal chips and processor that is also about 2 years behind in terms of Apple's ecosystem

I just got the iphone 4 and its great for me. Could not care less about Siri. Don't need turn by turn either really. And the price from verizon was great = free.

the 4 isnt bad with ios6, tbh spend an extra 75 and get the 4s.

but £200 for a 32gb ip4 is actually not bad !

16gb go for between 175 and 200 on ebay ...

The 4S is not 75 quid more, it is 150 more.
My idea was getting the 4 to have kind of an introduction to IOS.
If I like it, I can keep it for 6 months or so.
If not, I can probably sell it and brak even.
My fear is just the OS being laggy...
I don't do games except the casual games like angry birds.
I currently mostly use facebook, ebay, tapatalk, evernote, workout timers, pulse news on my android phone.
Other than that I use the phone to listen to music while on the go, ocasional web browsing on the go only when the tablet is not with me and e-mail.

Would IOS 6 on the iPhone 4 be slower than Android 4.1 on my Galaxy nexus?

The 4 is pretty solid with iOS 6 (minus the features mentioned earlier), it is just not "fast". Try one unit first if you can, it might be fine for you, people here (incl. myself) like to have the latest/fastest device available.

These phones are all relative to what you've been using. If you're coming from a Nexus, an iPhone 4 will be fine - it won't blow you away and you'll think the Nexus is better at some things and worse at others. Price seems high but if that's what they go for in your market, it's up to you.

Siri is a no go on the iPhone 4 as well.

I would agree with some others on here, get at least a 4S.

The reason being the 4, while still good is over 2 years old now and IMO doesn't run the best iOS experience (lack of siri, navigation and is likely to be not supported for newer apps requiring the A5). The 4S however is super fast still, it runs everything beautifully and is likely to be updated for another cycle (based on previous update patterns).

You should be able to get good quality used one's for between £200-£300 on eBay I would have thought!

Coming from Android myself, I say stick with Android. You are going to be very disappointed. Trust me. (Flame suit on

)

I am eyeing Samsung Note 2 or the Samsung S4 (coming early next year).

Just my opinion.

iPhone 4 is not a good deal my friend. You don't want to buy one.

If you can get an iPhone 5 that would obviously be best. If you can't wait till the price drops then go for the 4 S.

FaceTime does work over 3G/4G/LTE but AT&T specifically limited it to only those who are on their new shared data plans. It's carrier specific, not OS specific. Also, AT&T has backtracked on this limitation and allowed everyone to use FaceTime over 3G/4G as long as you have any/every kind of data plan.

He's coming form a Nexus device. He hasn't had to worry about OS updates.

well ive seen iphone 4 go for 175-180
seen a 4s go for 250-260

but your prob right they seems to have gone back upto the 300 mark for 4s and the 200 mark for the 4. so 25 extra.
