iMac G5 17" OSX 10.4.11 Garageband 2.02 questions
Hello People! Happy Thanksgiving!
The Basement studio is nearly complete! Wall mounted jacks for head phones and running mic's into the drum booth are the only things left to do! I found a G5 17" @ Geeks.com for $250 refurbished, it looks great, boots up nice etc, & I working hard to get garageband thing figured out. Is OSX 10.4.11 the newest operating system that will work on it? Is Garageband 2.02 the latest that will run on it? I go to software updates almost every day. Music production is the ONLY thing that it will be used for. A friend recommended trying to find an older version of logic pro (like 7 ??) but I'm not ready to spend alot on software now as...well, i just can't Appreciate any help you can offer. I also have a G3 tower & a G4 iLamp I would like to be able to make use of as either, I suppose backup or additional disc space Last edited by daily dave; Nov 22, 2012 at 10:06 AM. Reason: add info |

I'm fairly sure you can run leopard, 10.5.8 on that thing.
From what I'm reading on wiki, logic 9.0.x will work on powerpc unofficially, I'm guessing logic 8 will be safe on PPC. As for GarageBand, I think iLife 09 came with Leopard, so you're probably safe with that. I'm not sure though. I'd try finding a used license for Logic 8 though. There seems to be a few on ebay going for around 30$. |
