You were complaining about not wanting to buy a new machine "every 2 years", but even if you bought your PPC mac at the very end of the cycle, its been 6+ years now, which is well in excess of any reasonable expectation for the machine to still be supported.

Time (and software) moves on.

I can't run itunes on my Amiga, either.

Excuse me for not buying a new computer every 5 years even though my old one works perfectly... Still, even if you have new hardware, the newer versions just use up more computer resources and force you to keep updating.

not really, Mountain Lion and iTunes run just fine on my old mbp from mid 2009. iTunes takes like a second to open and nothings lagging

Same here. Our iTunes library is a major part of all the files we have, and in which I've invested literally hundreds of hours, so even with back-ups, I'm still a little leery about jumping in with both feet. I'm actually pretty happy with it, as it is right now. In spite of the lack of a 'progress' bar in the mini-player which I use a lot while doing other things, iTunes 11 seems to have some pretty cool new features. When this comes out finally, I'm going to be 'test-driving' it extensively in the store, and then wait for the inevitable updates, before deciding to upgrade.

The market for skilled German to English translation is huge in Germany for exactly this reason.

Part of the problem is that so many Germans speak perfectly functional business English, so they think they don't need any help, but little things like random capitalisation and German grammer creep into English texts.

My wife (a native German and fluent English speaker) will never have problems finding people in need of translations

I have a high-powered gaming laptop with a quad core processor, 12 GB of RAM and a fast SSD. Windows 8 boots in 10 seconds, iTunes takes longer than that to start. I don't see iTunes' poor performance on Windows as a sign that Windows is bad, just a sign that Apple programmers are either incompetent or so petty and vindictive that they're not willing to put any effort into other platforms. That's not exactly a convincing argument to swtich.

Well,to address your first point. The iTunes store, gapless playback, control and management of iPad, iPhone and iPod. Sound check, iTunes DJ - and that's just off the top of my head.

Don't buy a new computer every five years - but don't expect new software and technologies to be compatible with your older machine. You can't have it both ways.

I'm not sure if Apple still does this, but their phone support automation system used to ask if you are using your iDevice with a Mac or pc, and if you answer that you are on a pc, they would basically tell you, "sorry, can't help!," and hang up on you. They only wanted to support their products if you are using them on a Mac.

Why would the latest iTunes not work with Leopard? There is no technical limitation. My mom's MacBook Pro won't work with her iPhone 5 because it's running Leopard and a slightly outdated iTunes that can't be updated, and nobody feels like updating it to Lion even though it can run it.

Just to gauge the BS level: The latest iTunes works WITH WINDOWS XP SP2.
That was released in 2004. Leopard was released in 2007!
Oh, I also tried changing the system version to 10.8 in the version PLIST file, but that didn't work.

Wrong. There is nothing wrong with my PowerBook G4 1.5 . I use it daily for my PPC apps, I use my 2008 MB with .7 daily too, but PPC macs will always have a special place in my heart....

Only because Apple got leverage to demand it, in exchange for letting the labels control the price. But even that is within limits. Same with video.
