USA: Happy Thanksgiving! Our Budget Deficit Is Shrinking!

Here's some purdy charts.

Believe it or not, the federal deficit has fallen faster over the past three years than it has in any such stretch since demobilization from World War II.

In fact, outside of that post-WWII era, the only time the deficit has fallen faster was when the economy relapsed in 1937, turning the Great Depression into a decade-long affair.

Maybe I'm just spit-balling here, but how much have gays and their marriages added to the deficit? If we banned those and marijuana with Constitutional amendments, maybe America would be fine right now. ****ing democrats.

Huh? What does SSM have to do with the deficit? The only thing I can think might be a cause is the Rs are continuing to fight SSM in the courts. They are the ones spending money on this. :/

I would think putting 2 wars on the credit card and having huge tax breaks that went from a surplus before bush took office to huge deficits after is pretty telling....

Do you not think that policies enacted during the bush era, the economy, etc don't have inertia in respect to turning things around?

To believe one can just go from 1+trillion deficits to a surplus is beyond naive IMO

I find it ironic that the GOP is so concerned with the budget when it is their party that got us in this mess to begin with.

The democrats were more than on board with creating the subprime mess and allowing banks to gamble with the economy. In fact they stopped attempts to regulate Fannie and Freddie during Bush's term.

P.S. Wake me when the debt is going down. Saying the 'deficit is headed in the right direction' is like saying we're 'cutting spending' when all we're really doing is increasing spending slower than we originally planned. The big government and it's advocates have a warped language all their own.

That is interesting. You can also look at the world GDP clocks. The most interesting part, I found, is that the two of the countries with the lowest debt to GDP percentage are communist Russia and China. What does it mean? That communism is good for debt?

You may want to look at the debt, and then compare that number to the GDP. By the way, if you place the mouse's pointer over the number you are looking at, a window appears on the screen with an explanation of what the number means.

It's amazing how much data has been incorporated in that clock.

This is how politicians of all colors look at it. It is a positive trend. I figure the only way you'd be happy was if Obama waived his magic wand and made it all go away over the last 4 years or would it?

Yet if FDR hadn't have done that, the Great Depression would have gone on for at least 10 years longer than what it had.

But then again, to pay for it and WWII, as mentioned to you in another thread, we paid our bills and taxes were raised on the top end to the tune of 90%, and we got along perfectly fine during and afterwards, yet now, during the period where we've had the lowest taxes since, you're up in arms about it now.

And yet you balk at the same fiscal responsibility the Blues (modern-day Reds were Blue back then) took to steady the ship.
