Build-to-Order Pricing for New iMac Models Revealed
![]() Following Apple's announcement today that the new iMac models will go on sale this Friday, November 30 with immediate availability of 21.5-inch models and December availability of 27-inch models, Apple reseller Expercom has posted full configuration and pricing information for each of the models. While Apple has detailed the available customization options since last month, the company had not previously listed pricing information for the various options. - Base 21.5-inch model: Only one internal customization is available on the $1299 base model, with a $200 charge to upgrade RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB. The RAM is not officially user-upgradable, so those interested in 16 GB of RAM may be interested in considering this option. - High-end 21.5-inch model: In addition to the same RAM upgrade option available on the low-end model, the high-end model starting at $1499 also offers options for a processor bump from 2.9 GHz Core i5 to 3.1 GHz Core i7 ($200) and to upgrade the base 1 TB hard drive to a Fusion Drive ($250) that incorporates solid-state storage for faster performance. ![]() - High-end 27-inch model: The $1999 model bumps the default processor to a 3.2 GHz Core i5 and the graphics to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX with 1 GB of GDDR5, which can be upgraded to a 3.4 GHz Core i7 ($200) and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX with 2 GB of GDDR5 ($150). Storage and RAM upgrades are the same as on the base 27-inch model. Article Link: Build-to-Order Pricing for New iMac Models Revealed |

I can't help but think that if they invested less into making it thinner, or even kept the previous thinness (it's a desktop
), then they may have been able to offer much more powerful hardware, such as at least 7,200RPM HDDs or more powerful graphics for baseline models. But, thin wins with Apple. |

So I assume the high end 21.5" is also $200 to upgrade the RAM as well?

Haters can post all their rage comments about how this thing doesn't have an optical drive or the 21" model has no user upgradeable RAM, or that its too thin.
They can complain all they want, but this thing is sweet.

Those prices don't look too bad. I hope they transfer to the UK store at the same levels.

That would be nice for sure.
I can't believe that we've come to the point where a high end iMac model is as much as my MacPro was in 2008. Ah well, such is life.

$400 on the high end to go from a 1tb to a 3tb fusion.
That fusion drive is about $100 more than I hoped! Hopefully will come down in the next year or two. Would be crazy if they let you get a 3tb + 768gb flash!

And maybe the ability to change it as needed. Apple is getting retarded. I just bought 16GB SO-DIMM of same memory for under 100.00 for Macbook. So weak Apple. The hard drive speed thing is about moving users into more expensive models. There is no reason to offer 5400RPM drives (I get the fusion SSD/HDD option but even then I want 7200 in storage. Slow enough already). iMac's don't run on batteries. And the heat is a minimal difference.

I hoped for a cheaper fusion-upgrade. I know it is the same price as the Mini, but as it is an upgrade from 7.200 and not 5.600 it could be cheaper.

? That's not just ridiculous. That's absolutely LUDICROUS.You can get 32 GB from Newegg for prices as low as ~$160. This is just utterly ridiculous (or ludicrous. Either one works.). Charging $300 would not be unexpected, and I wouldn't be surprised at $400, but SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS? They should be ashamed of such a blatant ripoff, and this is coming from a big Apple fan. |

600 dollars for 32gb of ram in the 27" is just plain evil. Why? Because anyone that pays it doesn't know any better, and Apple is perfectly willing to exploit those people. I just bought 32gb of ram for 150 dollars...

pretty soon they are going to weld these shut and rig them with explosives so users can't tamper with them.
Then they can REALLY jack up ram prices. I'm surprised that they would have any vents as the users might get inside this way. |
