Doesn't that seem memory usage a bit excessive for a media player? All it is doing is playing a song in the backgrnd. Is this happening to everyone?

Less than 75% is not "almost". 90%+ would be "almost". Don't forget iTunes is much more than media player. It has been ever since the iPod came out many years ago.

My library is only 17GB or so, and it's using 500MB of RAM for me. That's unacceptable, even if it's "more than just a media player."

Seems odd. For me, iTunes uses 230mb of RAM on a early 2011 mbp. Might not be related, but did you get the appropriate 32/64 bit edition?

it's all album art, what did you expect? it gets flushed out the cache anyway, let it use your RAM, that's what its there for

what's acceptable to you? safari running on my computer viewing just this forum takes up 1.3gb of RAM.

Mine is currently using 165mb and was using 300mb when i was syncing my iPhone.

yeah, mine ranges from 170-270, but i've seen it at 1.5gb once likely because i was flying around albums and stuff and it cached a lot of my art in the process (which is mostly high res art i manually added)
