Facebook says they own the copyright to all images uploaded to their servers, and that they can share those images with third parties if they ever wanted to.

Wouldn't be surprised if Facebook launches a new 'REAL EX-GIRLFRIENDS' porn site in the near future.

I believe you do explicitly have to give permission. When I launched the Facebook app earlier today, it prompted me to either "Try it" or "Cancel" the new syncing feature. I opted to cancel.

When I go to my profile in the Facebook app and tap Photos, there is now a third tab at the bottom, "Synced". I have to explicitly click the "Sync Photos" button under that tab before the feature is enabled. I suspect you're able to revoke the syncing at any time, but I'm sure Facebook will keep multiple copies of any photo that's previously been uploaded to their servers.

Thank you for explaining your experience, it sounds like I was mistaken then. If this is the case, then that's the way it should be, opt-in. Based on Facebook's description and a couple other posts, it sounded like the feature was on by default.

Facebook says all the photos will be private. Facebook says lots of things about privacy.
I don't trust them!

This, still?

""[Y]ou retain the copyright to your content. When you upload your content, you grant us a license to use and display that content.""

Facebook's license ends when you delete your intellectual property.

This article explains it well.

Really? You area waist of planetary resources if you think that this would ever happen or Facebook would be stupid enough to alienate every user on the site.
the only real threat is from hackers getting on FB servers or accounts to steal them.

Hope this helps those of you who clicked "Sync" in error.

Wow, no. For people who are 100% confident that they will never have an embarrassing photo of themselves or any of their friends on their phone, this sounds like a great option.

I am not one of those people.

(Yes, I know Facebook says all the photos will be private. Facebook says lots of things about privacy.)

Don't worry about your photos of yourself. Worry about your friends' photos of you.

Use caution with a feature like this

I will personally not be using this feature with facebook. Whenever you upload a photo to Facebook it becomes the property of facebook. Not sure what it means that they put these automatic uploads in a private album, but I definitely would not trust it. Besides, 2GB would get used up really fast with the hi resolution photos that the iPhones now take.

I will pass on this one with Facebook. I don't want all my photos to be available on a private folder on fb at all. People never know what kind of picture their going to take. For those who can't wait for this upgrade have fun with it.

Not quite. Facebook's license ends when you delete the content *UNLESS* you or someone else has shared that content. Once that happens, there doesn't appear to be any way for that license to terminate.

This is the final push for me to dump facebook once and for all, using it less and less recently as i've been getting increasing concerned with how they treat your data and information as their property, and I really don't like the potential of where this is heading in the future, so I've cancelled my account permanently

Just so I got this right, this is opt in right? they won't enable it by default?

For now. Until the day they implement the next set of sweeping changes that makes this opt-out by default. FB has a tremendously poor track record of doing that sort of thing.

I could see this going very wrong. Good thing it's a private album.
Don’t they state in their terms of use that whatever you upload belongs to them or something? Hmm, private or not, don’t like the idea that they “own” what you do... by default. :(

So any photo I take on my phone is now owned by Facebook?
Where do I sign up?

Permanently until you sign in again... because they save your log in just in case you feel inclined to come back

And Apple approves of this BS ??? Facebook is quite possibly the most harmful service on the internet. I don't use it and never will.

Maybe I'm reading too much into the title, but I got a notification on my Android phone to use this too. It's not just limited to iOS users.

Wow, how convenient.

...for them. To own and use any and all photos on your iphone at their discretion.

Just barely on the "questionable" side of seedy.
