There's one really easy solution for this. Check out http://www.karthikk.net/2012/12/how-...s-11-tutorial/
Works also in 10.7. I've tried and was successful. |

I did the above, ie deleted everything, because I had first tried just trashing the 11 app and reinstalling 10.7 without all the recommended steps above. With that version I was able to get my original music back, but I was getting the -42408 error when I tried to access the music store, and even more importantly, I was not able to access iCloud.
Having followed the steps detailed in this post I was able to get the music, clear the error message and access the cloud, but...here is the problem. All my songs (over 20,000) had to be "re-matched" to what I already had in the cloud, which took a couple of hours. And worse, here is the real problem, all my songs were re-imported into iTunes and retagged with yesterday's date as the "Date Added" in the browser, so I have lost track of when I originally added to them on my compter, which is very important to me, as I do a lot of chronological playlist organizing with iTunes. Does anyone know if there is a way for me to re-add a previous "library.itl" file to return to the original playlist with the real "Date Added" dates? Or is it too late for that after I zapped all those files with the Zapper? Thanks. Last edited by Orpheuspro; Dec 4, 2012 at 02:47 AM. |

it works...but...
Hi there!
This solution worked for me BUT iTunes wonŽt start... it says that the iTunes Library cannot be read since it was created with a newer version. Makes sense so far since I updated ITunes two days ago to Version 11. Is there a way to transform the library somehow so that it can be read again with the old iTunes Version? If so - IŽd be thankful for any hint! If not - IŽd have to either install version 11 again OR somehow delete / rename the library.itl in order to build a new one, right ? Thanks in advance (and sorry for my bad english ... ) Adorion EDIT: Found this thread ... saw the video ... GREAT!!!! It worked! :-) :-) Phew.... ! http://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...ight=itunes+11 Quote:

Worked mostly...
Thanks for the fix. error 42408 is not showing up anymore and I can play my DRM files but I still have this weird thing that started when I went back to 10.7 from 11...when I start playing any file in iTunes I get a flash of grey screen behind all my applications...the whole screen flashes grey as the file starts...anyone else? Any ideas on how to get rid of that?
Thanks in advance! |

Also - I use Clean My Mac normally, and it was able to uninstall my itunes files (your computer wont let you just delete them). After I did that, I was able to go into time machine and "restore" the last version of iTunes - just from my applications file. My computer would let me as long as I had already gotten rid of the new iTunes. Just a thought if you have the back ups - it was much easier than downloading iTunes and Pacifist to re-install. Thanks again!

I've wasted half a day trying to revert back to 10. 3 problems
1. even though I've restored 10, I still get an error msg every time I start up 10. A nuisance 2. none of my digital copies of movies will play. The time elapsed counts forward, but there is image or sound. 3. all tv shows downloaded from itunes have the same issue as dgital copies of movies. 4. I seem to have lost 80-100 songs somewhere along the road. My music files are scattered across multiple folders and I've tried restoring them folder by folder but I've apparently missed some. Checking again, I appear to have some 1K duplicate files, and probably more. The price i pay for trying to retrieve everything: i retrieved many things more than once. Maybe I can download dig copies again? But what do I do about the persistent error message with each itunes startup? ---------- Quote:
edit: it looks like i've been able to restore full functionality; i have access to my movies, tv shows and the itunes store. I think I have all of my songs as well; i copied and pasted the folders which should have most all of my music files? What an ordeal. Big middle finger to apple. I will never hold them in the same high regard ever again. Last edited by mackandproud; Dec 7, 2012 at 09:17 AM. |

Thanks BIG TIME! The only changes I made were using Time Machine to restore my old Preferences and Library.itl files.

restoring itunes
I tried this out on my macbook first as I have a smaller library on it then on my imac. It worked great, although I didn't use the pacifist at all because I forgot that step. The error message everyone keeps talking about popped up initially but everything but once I closed the window for that message it appears all is working fine & it returned it to the previous version. All my music appears the same as it was before 11. Thanks so much because I really dislike itunes 11 & am glad to be back to the previous version. I am going to attempt to change it on my imac tomorrow using my time machine back up after deleting 11! Hoping for the same results there with the exception of any music I added since the upgrade!
![]() Ok I just attempted to replace itunes 11 on my imac w/out success, I followed all the instructions as before but it says the library was created by a newer version would you like to download it now! How can I fix this issue & get itunes 10.7 to open? Can I just delte all the itunes libraries some how & start from scratch as my music is still in the user folders under music anyway? I can vouch for this post
Followed this post to the letter, it worked.
It ALSO fixes a problem with the remote app on the iPhone not being able to control iTunes. This has fixed what 3 hrs of phone calls to apple support have failed to do. So many many thanks! Peter |

Worked!
Thanks Bogoss! Saved my Itunes library. As others, I did not delete iTunes 11 w. Appzapper, but had Pacifist do it for me. Worked like a charm, as did following the steps in the YouTube hyperlink to restore my previous lib file. Thanks again and happy new year!
