There's a real lack of understanding and immaturity on this thread.

The content suppliers are the people who decide what can be given in which territory. They'll have reasons - either they want to raise awareness of something, or move more units to meet a target or simply give away some old product.

Although Apple may make requests of certain providers, what is given away isn't down to the company.

Likewise the decision not to allow this to happen in the US is down to the providers, not Apple.

Moreover, it's a free app offering free media. In order to appeal to a wide range of users there will be stuff you like and stuff you don't like. If you don't like it, don't download it. There's no need to complain about it.

No, you just need an address for the free stuff. And if you want to buy something you just need a giftcards or a creditcard from that country.

I created an italian and french account for the free song of the week and it works well. The free apps of the week are the same though all over the world.

And while I was in Rome and Paris lately I bought some giftcards from the Apple store there causa I got hooked to that lovely french chansons and the cool italian pop music.

Well if last year is anything to go by there should be some good stuff in amongst the junk...Last year I got Snapseed, Sega Racing, some good Coldplay music ( if you like them.. ) And a couple of TV shows.

I'm glad they are doing it again, and have installed on my phone and my iPad in readiness.

Also, it looks like there will be something on Boxing Day in the Mac App store: "Don’t have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Don’t worry. Come back December 26 to download gifts from your computer."

Apparently there was a quiet invasion of the US by Canada last Thanksgiving about 2 pm when you all were comatose from L-tryptophan. I saw this on Twitter, so it must have been true.

The app started to appear on all latin american iTunes Store. Colombian here. Downloaded. I guess that Apple negotiated rights for all Europe, Latin America and Canada. Cool!

The iOS app is only a reminder for the daily offers, you do not need it to take advantage of them. Just go to the iTunes store every day and there will be a 12 Day of Christmas panel on the front page.

I created a user in account in Scotland. I get 12 Days of Christmas though I live in the US. Most of the giveaways this year are rubbish. I've noticed that some of the app giveaways are free in the U.S. store anyways. Last year's giveaways were fantastic!
