Mail Internal Error

I cant seem to open mail for the last past week..been giving me an pop up message saying Internal Error...

does anyone know how I would be able to fix this problem?
should i reformat or clean my harddrive in any way?

Did you try fix/repair permissions?

Another thing to try would be to delete/move to another location ~/library/application support/mail (forgot the exact path). Then restart the system and launch mail.


About all I have, good luck.

how do i fix/repair permissions? in disk utilities?

I thought it was my mail app, which doesnt seem to open without freezing now...so I googled another mail app named sparrow (http://www.sparrowmailapp.com/) and just today this error came up... doesn't freeze or nothing....i think its my computer...

Something is obviously corrupted. I am not sure what, but at this point booting your Mac from the Recovery partition and running Disk Utility diagnostics is STRONGLY advised.

Here's how you do it:
  1. Reboot your Mac
  2. After the screen shuts off and the Mac restarts, hold down :apple:+R
  3. Keep holding until a screen appears with a background resembling the OS X installer.
  4. At this point you'll be in Recovery Mode. From here, click Disk Utility.
  5. Verify the disk (by clicking the Verify Disk button, after selecting your main drive - which will be named Macintosh HD unless you renamed it).
  6. If any errors are found, repair the disk.
  7. Repeat repairs until no problems are detected, or you get a message such as: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
  8. If you get that message, problems were found that Disk Utility cannot fix. Otherwise, proceed.
  9. Click Repair Permissions, and let Disk Utility do its thing.
  10. Once that's done, reboot, and your Mac should be acting better!
  11. In the event that you got a failure message during the Repair Disk phase, you'll have to format the affected partition to fix it.
  12. Make SURE you back up first, though.
  13. Once the partition is formatted, reinstall OS X Mountain Lion and restore your backup. (Note: This process is slow - for me it takes 3 to 4 hours.)
