SD card reader issues from 2011 MBP - resolved in non-Retina 2012 MBPs?

I've read that many people have experienced issues with the SD card reader on the 2011 MBPs. Have these issues been resolved in the 2012 non-Retina MBPs?

I hadn't heard of any issues, and don't use the reader in my 2012 very often but it works fine when I do.

I've never heard of these issues either, care to point us to a source?

Slightly off topic, but I'd much rather have an extra USB port than the useless reader.

Mine works fine, but Anandtech did note that the 2011s had issues in his review of the 2012 rMBP and cMBP.

"Issues" is awfully vague. We still have no idea what the OP means.

There are lots of reports of SD cards (particularly larger SDHC cards) not mounting at all in the internal reader, or mounting only some of the time. Some said their reader stopped working after upgrading to a new version of OS X (Lion or Mountain Lion). A few Google searches turned up loads of threads about these problems.

I don't think these complaints were exclusive to 2011 MBPs, but the majority of them seemed to be regarding those. I did read the Anandtech article, which I believe is what alerted me to these issues to begin with.

chrfr and NewishMacGuy, do you both have the 2012 non-Retina MBP?

Does anyone know whether or not the reader in the 2011 non-Retina MBPs is the exact same hardware as in the 2011 models?

I have 2 early 2011 models and have not had any problems, but also haven't used any really fast xc cards on either.

Yeah mine is a 2011 and I wasn't even aware people were having issues with the SD card reader.

Mine hasn't had any problems at all.
