Do you think Apple will release a TB Display, TBD with DP, or separate TB & ACD?

When the new Monitors eventually come out, do you think they will

Continue selling a separate Updated Thunderbolt Display and separate Updated Cinema Display that is compatible with Mini Display Port

Release a monitor that has both

They will get rid of the Cinema Display

Another option would be that they update the Thunderbolt Display, but not the ACD, but keep making them anyway.

?

ACD was discontinued in 2011. Not sure what you are taking about. ATD is the only monitor Apple still makes.

Btw Thunderbolt is compatible with Mini Display Port.

No, it's not.

MDP can work in a TB port, but not the other way around.

The ACD is not discontinued. Apple still produces them, I would assume to accompany the Mac Pro.

TB is backward compatible for MDP.

The new port is backward compatible so it can still be used to connect to DisplayPort devices

And because Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort technology, the video standard for high-resolution displays, any Mini DisplayPort display plugs right into the Thunderbolt port. To connect a DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, or VGA display, just use an existing adapter.

27 ACD is definitely discontinued as of 7/20/2011. Doesn't mean they aren't selling old stock. But it is no longer being made. The ATD display took over.

If it were discontinued (ala the 17" MBP) then they wouldnt still be for sale on Apple's website. Similar to how the iPad 2 isn't discontinued and is still selling along side Retina iPads.

Regarding the TB-MDP compatibility, yes, you can plug MDP into TB. However, I think the concern in this thread is that if the TBD is updated and the ACD is no longer sold, then people with MDP Macs won't be able to connect through TB.

Yeah you can't use a Minidisplay out with a Thunderbolt Display. It is the only reason they still sell the Apple Cinema Display.

ACD is discontinued. Look at the links I sent. It was discontinued 7/2011. Ask Apple why they are still selling it. Still have inventory?

However the ACD is discontinued. I already provided you with sources for that.

Once again Thunderbolt is backward compatible with MDP. Nothing I said was incorrect.

Dude you can't use a Thunderbolt Display without a thunderbolt port.

Thunderbolt Ports ARE compatible with Mini-Display Port. You are talking about two different things altogether.

That's only about half correct, as only source thunderbolt jacks (IE those you find on a computer itself) is backwards compatible with displayport.

The Thunderbolt Display itself is NOT compatible with displayport, at all. Even Apple themselves state as much. If you try to plug a TBD into a (M)DP jack, all you get is a black screen.

IF the new ATD has a screen as nice as the iMacs I might bite.

I have two aluminum displays matte because of the glare in my office.

Dude I never said that. All I said was TB is backward compatible with MDP. Just as Apple states.

TB is only backwards compatible with mDP in one direction. Older Macs with mDP but no TB cannot use a TB display. Anyway Apple has never said the 27" ACD was discontinued. It is considered discontinued when Apple stops selling it new.

The ACD will continue to be sold as long as people are buying them. Mac Pro users are probably the great majority of the ones still buying the ACD. I'd guess that if/when Apple releases a Mac Pro that supports the TBD that the ACD will be discontinued.
