Questions about ScanSnap S1500M

It seems the S1500M is the scanner to buy. I'm close to ordering one, but I have some questions first.

1. I've read on multiple sites that Acrobat Pro 9, particularly the OCR feature, does not work with Mountain Lion. OCR is important because I want to scan textbooks that do not have digital versions and be able to highlight/search text. How does the ABBYY Finereader compare to Acrobat concerning OCR? Are there any recommended budget-priced programs with reliable OCR capabilities and are compatible with the ScanSnap?

2. Has anyone had issues with jamming, and if so, was the page ripped or crumpled? I've seen the expensive copier/scanner at work mangle pages to the point where they couldn't be used again.

If anyone has used the S1500 to scan a textbook, I'd like to know what kind of results you had and how you went about removing the binding.

Can't help on 1 as I've only tried to OCR one document and it was oddly formatted and the OCR software couldn't handle it very well.

With over 10k pages scanned, I've only had a handful of jams. Happens if I overload the input tray. No problems with pages getting messed up when jams occur.

Only books I've scanned were loose bound (spiral strips) and scanned fine once removed from the binder. Don't see any way to scan textbooks withot cutting pages out.

I'm glad to hear jamming isn't an issue. I'll take the books to a print shop and have them remove the binding before scanning.
