Apple TV and AirPlay when TV off
Hi
I'm thinking about getting an Apple TV 3 and was wondering, if I was to buy a DAC (such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005HFTUO..._ws_gb?ie=UTF8 ), and not have my TV switched on, will airplay still work though the optical port? I remember reading a while ago that sometimes the Apple TV won't work if the TV is off. Is this still the case or will my solution work? Hope that makes sense and thanks in advance!

Yes. Confirmed working.
I am doing the same thing with: http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-...ystem+for+home and http://www.amazon.com/Nyrius-SW100-D...cable+splitter and http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Digital...optical+to+rca Airplay wakes up ATV2 and plays automatically. Another option
I got one of these yesterday with the same idea in mind:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HT-CT150-...I/ref=pd_ybh_4 You can plug the AppleTV into it with the optical cable included, and the TV doesn't need to be on. There are also HDMI options. Sounds great for $188. |
