I'm sure this list was put together before Google Maps was released. Just because its the #1 download right now doesn't make it the best app of the year though I'm sure Google fanboys would claim its the best app ever in the history of apps.

It fixes something monumentally broken, I'm no Google fanboy (don't even have an account with them) but it's the app I've wanted the most!

It's a bit short sighted to release a "best of" whilst the App store is still accepting submissions and releasing new content. Will it be the best app of 2013 or will it's release date block that?

Procreate, Grafio and (shock/horror) adobe ideas are all better in practice than Paper which doesn't zoom, has no layers and no features of any substance

I love The Room. It is a work of art. I did find the game short (about 3-4 hours without hints), but like you said its a cheap date. Its not really about a room, its about an object in a room. You don't go anywhere, you just get to tilt, pan, zoom, and interact with a 3D object in the room. The story is very simplistic. But I did find some of the challenges were tricky.

In all, its the best game I've played on iOS asthetically. For that I stongly recommend ipad version.

Well worth a couple bucks. Cheaper than a movie ticket and will entertain you longer.

I use my iPad for sketching and handwritten notes several hours each day. Paper? That's a worthless piece of fluff-ware. Can't believe this got the nod....other than from Jony who undoubtedly loves the blank page UX for this.

Game of the year is an iOS port, with no real in-depth mobile design ideas... meh. One can pretty much replace that with Tetris, Plants vs. Zombies or whatever. I was expecting something like Tilt to Live, Superbrothers or Battleheart. If it has to be a port, better go with adult swim games. :/
