3G Kindle App Crash

I have a in iPhone 3G running the last available iOS (4.2.1).

With out a doubt, my favorite app is the Amazon Kindle app. I read books on it constantly. I also started using it to manage PDFs, by emailing songs to my kindle account.

Unfortunately, the last time I did that, the app crashed while downloading the PDF. Now, every time I open the app, it tries to finish downloading the PDF, and crashes.

Things I've already tried:

went to my amazon account and deleted the offending pdf
restored my iPhone from my backup

I would delete the app and download it again, but the App Store no longer has a version that is compatible with my phone.

If I delete it on the phone, then sync the phone, will it reinstall the app, and maybe work?

Are you jailbroken?

Transfer the current version you have back to iTunes (sync purchases). Then delete and reinstall the app.

Dont restore from backup. That just reinvents the problem.
