iMac 21,5 2012 Fan Noise

I spoke too soon. I fired up Adobe Premiere and applied an effect to 6 or 7 clips at once and my jet took off for about 15 seconds. That thing gets LOUD!

After the effect was applied it calmed back down, but now I can still hear the fan droning inside there, even though it's running at 1200rpm

Seriously? 21.5" or 27"?

I've rendered a few things in After Effects/Premiere Pro CS5.5 and haven't had any fan noise whatsoever.

The grill at the back feels warm when I render, but the fan doesn't go up.

Using the maxed out 21.5".

Guys chill out. You can certainly hear the fan at 1200 rpm (which hast been the one and only speed I ever got so far) but that's just the way **** is. It's not like it's a thrumming fan sound or anything. Just a regular computer fan sound. Look at the bright side, this way it stays really cool which is good for all the components.

Mine sits at 1200rpm and is dead silent, its the 27" with 680mx and 3TB fusion, 1400rpm sounds a bit high and would be the reason you can hear it.

No I believe 1400 rpm might be normal for the 21" model.
I wonder if yours is really dead silent with 1200 rpm since I have the same model but can clearly hear the fan sound at 1200 rpm. You sure your room is more or less quiet?

I've got a 27" 3.4 with 680MX, 1tb fusion and 32GB ram

I just did a render in premiere and the fan peaked up to 2200 RPM and then dropped back to 1200

My room is dead silent and the iMac is also silent, my old 2008 iMac was noisy but this new one is great

Same on my maxed out 27" when I played intensive games. Compare to my old late 2009 iMac, it's loud! I guess it's the price to pay when we get the best mobile GPU...

I just got mine up to 2700 RPM doing another render... I really don't mind it, because I know this machine is a powerhouse and needs that fan during intense tasks. The fan was running at 2700 RPM but the CPU usage was only at 17%

Exactly, you have to put the power of this machine and the small space Apple crammed the gear in into perspective. I would be more worried if the fan didn't spin up and make some noise while i was rendering or playing games.
