Test for rMBP screen manufacturer

I just picked up my rMBP 15" from apple repair and while I do not have ghosting anymore the terminal command will not work showing who made the screen.

EDIT: I had a couple spaces in the code and now I got it to work and i have the samsung panel this time around.

yeah, been trying that and couldn't get anything from the terminal command using this:
ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

It looks like they've gotten tired of folks poking at machines trying to figure out who made individual parts.
LG Screen already went out.
So guys I had an LG screen and 8 little pixels went out and then it went to 9 in 1 week before I got to take it in to the apple store for the 7th time... Yea went through 3 logic bords and then my screen then battery and now I got an new one and its an samsung screen and yes I am thanking Jesus in my prayers for that.

Retina Macbook Pro 15 inch 2,7ghz 16gb ram 768 ssd
First one was week 49 build, had image retention and was an LG screen according to the details from terminal.
Sent it back, received another one (also week 49 build) the very next day (outstanding turnaround) and it seemed to be pretty good the first day.
Went ahead and spent all evening loading my programs on, buying ones needed, etc...
Tonight, I have image retention as bad or worse than the first one. Now, I can't guarantee that it is an LG screen because it only shows "Color LCD" in terminal now.
I'm very dissatisfied that a $3,900 laptop comes with a less than optimal screen. The nearest Apple store is 160 miles away. Would you continue to send them back (and go through the hassle of reloading software each time, possible losing serial numbers in the transfer) or wait until I'm near the Apple store and have the screen replaced? I won't be near the Apple store for at least a couple of months.

Does Apple block you finding out how to see the screen brand now? Was it in an update or something?
It seems so. When I type in the same thing that I did for the first mbpr, now I only get "Color LCD".
I'm sure it is an attempt to keep people from returning them just because they are an LG rather than actually having a problem. Unfortunately, this one is even worse than the first.

LG here 😱 + Week 49 ( Dec. 2nd ~ 8th ) Build Date
To soon to tell if I am having problems or not.
Here is what I have observed so far:
Screen seems to perform nominally.
Have set to change "Desk-Top" image every 1 min.
For the 1st month , I plan on a screen brightness of NO MORE than half.
If you remember the days of the old style Plasma TV`s , you had to break them in in order prevent or reduce IR.
I know that LCD/LED IPS , is not a Plasma based display , however I am still going ahead with my break-in time.
Other notes:
Screen looks good , working with pic`s as well as web sites sites that I work from ( tech stuff / wikipedia / Twice, mostly reference and research ).
That of course is not all I do on the web , I have fun to 😉 and so far I have NOT encountered ANY web site that does not look "normal".
In other words , standard web surfing is A-OK !
I will know more once my break-in period is over , after 2 weeks I plan to gradually increase the brightness level to my standard usability. ( whatever look good to my eye balls !! 🙂 ).
IF my panel checks out , it may be a "batch problem" therefor to the "OP" , I suggest adding "please post manufactured date as well" .
Anyway , that is all I can say right now , FULL review might be delayed due to break in time , but it will be posted !!
I will keep you guy`s up to date as much as possible , as I know you all have question , as do I !! 🙂
In the mean time , enjoy life , it`s only a tool ( the MBP-R or rMBP ). !!

I have a week 50 (December) 2012 build MBPr, it is a custom order, 2.7GHz, 512MB SSD, 16GB RAM.

How do you know that if in the Terminal all it says is "Color LCD" ??

WOW this sucks now how the HECK will we know if we got a LG or a Samsung panel...This is a END OF THE WORLD crises!!! But seriously Apple only figures this out and not the other 100 issues it has with their laptops...
Those sneaky guys.....Go figure!
It's utterly ridiculous if Apple has now blocked the way to see the screen manufacturer. But I wouldn't be surprised, always when there is a real defect in their hardware line they try all means to hide it up as long as possible.

Had an LG display and it had image retention. It was noticeable but it wasn't too annoying. I got used to it. Earlier this week I began having issues with the screen unrelated to the image retention where the screen would seem to dim in and out on its own.
I had the screen replaced and I got a Samsung display this time and it's absolutely perfect. No imagine retention and it seems to be a lot crisper than the LG one. 🙂

So I took my rMBP to the Genius Bar and got it replaced free of charge under AppleCare. They looked at it and got it swapped out all under thirty minutes. It looks like they replaced my LG display with a Samsung one.
The repair would've been $720 if it hadn't been done under AppleCare.

Below Color LCD, I see "LSN154YL01001" indicating a Samsung display.
The command some of you guys are using for the 15" rMBP won't work. That's why you're getting "Color LCD" as a result. The proper command for the 15" rMBP greps "EDID" and not "IODisplayEDID". See the command and it's output below.

Dropped off my beloved 15" retina at the Apple store on Tuesday and picked it up today. My burn ins got worse, I only waited till now because I dormed at school. Anyway, new Samsung (LS) display. Cha-ching. Thank you Apple.
Just opened my rMBP and its a LG Panel with Samsung SSD.
I don't see any issues so far and looks like it was calibrated perfectly from the factory(If i remember Phil schillers presentation during its Launch) and I didn't have to do anything.
I didn't get WOW'ed with the screen as I had hoped as my MBA pretty much had the same crispness considering the screen size.
But what I love about this is, the scaling! You can't do this with any other Mac! It's like having a super thin CRT screen all over again!
I can change resolutions and still have crisp text and images. Try that on any another LCD PC/Mac. That's one sole good reason to get the Retina.
Watch this 4k video and select "Original" in the resolution settings and see the Retina come to its full glory. Also probably give you an idea of how your screen performs,compared to static images/text.

Nailed it. I had the "COLOR LCD" as well at first but them realized the params could be different and used your command got results.
And it was an LG.
I am not implying anything here, but after having gone through couple of MBA's and now this, going forward all I need to do is open the computer for the first time and I can tell wether it's an LG or Samsung. 🙂
And I am slowly getting used to the sharpness of the retina screen ( I hate that marketing term) and yes, WOW!
Now how will I work in any other LCD screen? Apple, you have suddenly screwed up my work PC!
Just noticed something. I have my screen set to 1680x1050 and while everything looks great the page scrolling numbers look BIG. Looks like they haven't scaled properly. I am talking about this very page.I am using safari and have all the updates.

Have read a few posts regarding replacements and Apple always seems to replace them with Samsung's....
It's official we are all the QA for Apple now. Foxconn workers must have very bad eye sight.
