Any suggestions when I'm 3,000 miles away from my My Book backup external HD that I use for back up?

Thanks for your thoughts.

You could try an online backup service, or you could get a portable external, or you could put a Hard Disk in place of your optical drive.

I would just get a small, portable drive like this and take it along.

I have Crashplan for online backup, but it rarely works in hotels due to their router blocking the ports Crahsplan uses to upload. In a 22 day trip this year, I got Crashplan to work at a hotel once.

My experience is different. I've not had crashphan fail for me while traveling.. even internationally. I probably travel 3-4 times per month... nearly every week.
