iPhone can't connect to iTunes - Updating to IOS6 via iCloud -

Hi all,
my phone will not connect to iTunes vis USB and i keep getting the "could not establish a secure connection to device" message popup. I am able to backup my phone to iCloud. Is there anything that won't be backed up up if I do this?

I'm thinking that, if I back it up to iCloud, then do a factory reset, then restore from my iCloud backup, everything should be back to "normal"? Is this the case? Will I lose anything (other than my music, which I can put back later?)

Just looking at my iCloud backup options, there doesn't seen to be the option to backup my SMS/MMS. will this happen automatically?
