While I normally use pages it is sometimes necessary to use Word. I never had any real issues with word 2008 on Lion or Snow Leopard but started to issues when I upgraded to Mountain Lion. The correction, according to the folks at the local Apple store was to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac. I did and now randomly I get shutdowns with the standard message " Word unexpectedly closed do you want to send a message to Microsoft" has anyone else experienced issues with Word 2011?
 
I have the whole office suite 2011....As long as you keep it up to date it should be fine...It's installed on my iMac and my MBP...No recent crashes to report.
