And they've displayed this how? I was under the impression this news just broke... Crystal ball?
I was more or less predicting something similar to happen like the latest $6.2 billion write-off M$ had to announce after acquiring aQuantive.

Microsoft should buy D2 and then merge both companies as a single name to corner the market.
What a bad headerline for this article - totally confusing.
And seriously, Apple fans, writing MS as M$ is akin Chris Farley calling John Candy for "fat bastard". It is so ridiculous it's beyond belief - but hey it says a lot about individuals' critical sense and naivité.
Title of this article is confusing. I read it like this
"Microsoft Acquires Apple, Target R2 Studios" .....
?
That wasn't my point. My point was that M$ doesn't seem to have it together like Apple and Google. So when they heard that Apple and Google were courting R2, they thought "Hey, let's buy it - not sure why, but let's buy it before the others do"
Nice try, though - if you're trying to bait me.

Do you have anything (cited references, friends/family that work for MS or R2) to support this claim?? If not, perhaps you're the one trying to bait folks. Or perhaps you just like to bash MS... if so, that's your prerogative but I think we can all see how biased you are. I guess the RDF is strong in you.

.....The report notes that Microsoft has been working hard to transform its Xbox platform into a digital media hub, striking deals with HBO, Netflix, YouTube, Comcast, and Time Warner for on-demand and Web video.

What Microsoft hit the "But it Now" button while Google and Apple were bidding?
Also really not sure what you mean by M$ not having it together???. W8 is ambitious and actually smells of innovation, and the same can be said about the Windows phone, an actual OS that was innovated, while Android is a copy of iOS and iOS is seriously dated. I dare to say the only ones actually innovating and taking risks atm are M$. Maybe they were the only ones of the big three that had a plan for R2, hence why they bought them and outbid G$$gle and A$$le.

Ok, the clown comment just made me laugh out loud at work. Too funny!!Whenever I read stories like this about these three companies, whether they're buying nortel patents or buying out a brand, I imagine the two losing bidders looking at each other as the winning bidder throws out an overzealous number. As if they're secretly saying to each other, "What a sucker." I realize it doesn't work that way, but it's fun to imagine the personifications of these three. One dressed in a bowtie and horn rimmed glasses, one in a mock turtle neck and jeans, and one dressed as Pennywise the clown from Stephen King's "It".
LOL!!! George Lucas may have something to say about that.
What exactly are those deals, or is that still under wraps?
When the bidding price goes beyond a point, it becomes cheaper to develop the technology in house.
I would question Microsoft's ability to take advantage of this company. An X-Box would not be all that useful for home automation. For that, you need cell phones and tablets. "I think I want to turn on the blender. Let me walk into the media room and turn on the TV so I can do it."
Home automation is 90% about doing stuff when you are not home; It is about turning up the temperature in your cold house from the airport, before you drive home. It is about monitoring your home security system from the other side of the planet. Yes, you can set up a macro that turns off the lights when you put in a Blu-ray. I don't see that as being any more useful than taking your X-Box with you on vacation to Australia, so you can turn on the porch light at night.
If it were an Apple run company Lucas should sue . I'm clearly confused between R2 Sudios and R2D2. Lol
