Can't import large movie from iphone to iphoto...?
I can't import a 55 minute video recorded with iphone 4 into iphoto.
I get an error message every time. It's not important to me to get it into iphoto....but i do need it moved to the computer as a .mov file. Any tips or programs to help me yank the large video file off the phone and on the imac?!?! Thanks. Matt

i should have included that into the first post.
image capture will not pull it off either. i've tried restarting (phone and imac) and didn't work. there was an 'apple help' support thread or two about it, but nobody came up with something that i'd tried. keep the help coming. thanks Matt

Not sure if you can do this on a Mac, but on my PC i can view my iPhone as a 'camera' in My Computer. If I follow the file structure(which is easy since it's just a string of folders within folders), I eventually come upon the last folder which contains all of my videos and pictures. I can cut or copy them onto a folder straight from there.

OP, what happens when Image Capture doesn't work? Does it tell you anything? Give you a file that doesn't play? What happens? |

theres hardly any reason for image capture not to work,
these things need to be determined first: 1. does it playback on the iphone 2. did you use other software to capture the recording 3. have you ever transferred a movie from an iphone to mac before 4. what error messages are you getting (GRAB screenshots please) |

i'm not sure either....but i'll try to dump it on my school computer (pc) and then move it to imac....then convert from wmv to .mov.
may not need to do that last part. we'll see if it works. Matt

pc plan failed.....it pulled up a DCM folder...but there was nothing in it.
and there are a few hundred pictures on there....so that's not right. ---------- Quote:
2. no...just a long movie recording from the iphone back camera 3. yes....several times. without issue 4. i'll have to wait until i get home.....the error doesn't have a number associated with it. something like ''there was an error importing pictures to the roll'' or somethign like that. if i select all but the long file...and hit 'import selected' it will work no problem. but if i make that file part of the group...or try to import it on it's own.....no can do. i'll screen grab this evening. if i get a chance. thanks for the help guys. Matt

Can you sync the phone in iTunes without issue?
---------- Try this.. Step one: turn off and on your iPhone. Step Two : launch iTunes and iPhoto Step three : connect the iPhone to the computer. 2. Connect the USB cable directly to the computer (do not go through a hub) 3. Import movies into iphoto OR Quit iPhoto Open Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app) In the search window at the top right, search for PTPCamera Click on PTPCamera in the list of results to highlight it Click on Quit Process (the red stopsign icon in the upper left of Activity Monitor) Choose “Quit” If you don’t already see “Image Capture Extension” in the list, search for it in the search box. Click on “Image Capture Extension” in the list of results to highlight it Choose “Quit” Go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > Image Capture > Devices and open PTPCamera.app back up Unplug and re-plug the iPhone 4. iPhoto should open, if you’ve set it to do so when a camera is plugged in. Otherwise, open it. You should see your media available for import from the iPhone 4 when you click on the iPhone 4 in the devices list. |

Try sshing if your jailbroken, I've transferred large files that way and I'm using a Mac.

I've come upon this topic before, looking for solutions (similar problems) and I have a Macbook and iPhone4. A 2GB movie was transferred easily through windows 7 which was bootcamped, recognizing the phone as a simple USB device directly, without any aid. That turned out to be my solution.
Hope it helps somehow. Cheers. |

Fixed This Problem For Myself
Use the original USB cable (white one that came with the phone). I was trying to import movies using a cheap aftermarket 3rd party cable and I was getting the same error message. I switched to the original cable and it worked perfectly. You're welcome.

Large movie (3.9 GB) from iPhone 5
I had the same issues describe in this thread for my new iPhone 5 connected to a Mac AND had the same set of error messages.
I resolve two issues: 1- file would not transfer because I was short on disk-space on cpu - solution, save to external drive. This may not be the source of the error for the original post, but I had a message saying that there was an error initially with syncing the iPhone with iTunes where it did not say why the sync failed. 2- I used ImageCapture, but NOT the import button. I simply used drag-and-drop on to my external drive. ImageCapture showed that the file was being transferred, as it does with the normal import mode. The move opened and played. There were some stripes on the video (possible compression issues) so I retransferred the 3.9 GB file and the movie played flawlessly. I hope that this helps. |
