Your Mac must be one of the following models:

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
If you are running Lion, you can find out if your current Mac qualifies by clicking the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, choosing About This Mac, then clicking More Info.

Try this link. Enter the serial number and it should tell you the year. I do agree it is not very technical. I think you have the minimum specs.

Yes, you are correct it is now PostgreSQL.

The only times that it would make sense to upgrade to ML server is if you are currently on Lion server. Snow leopard server is much superior and the last of the proper OSX servers. I ran a leopard server (G4 machine so didn't run S.L.), the hardware was upgraded recently which necessitated moving to ML server. I was unable to fully transition due to limitations in the webdav implementation....so I run a ML server, which runs SL server in VMware! Its the only way I could get it to work. ML natively does VPN and OD functions, SL does all the web functions.

I running ML Server on a late 2009 Mac Mini. It is working fine for me.
