It would be interesting to see if the productivity of the top 50 posters carries into the real world, outside of MR. Are they some of the most prolific writers? Or highly productive workers? I have no idea. In any case, while I don't post much, I enjoy reading various posts here on MR and recognize a number of the top 50 posters. To you, dear gals and guys, goes our thanks for keeping us informed and entertained!

So with the new ranking systems, where does that put all of these members?
Some of the Top 50 have Demi-God or moderator titles, which aren't affected by post counts. Here are the "processor-based" one determined by post counts:
  • GGJstudios (macrumors Nehalem)
  • jessica. (macrumors Nehalem)
  • Eidorian (macrumors Penryn)
  • rdowns (macrumors Penryn)
  • Abstract (macrumors Penryn)
  • bartelby (macrumors Core)
  • Dagless (macrumors Core)
  • miles01110 (macrumors Core)
  • PlaceofDis (macrumors Core)
  • iBlue (macrumors Core)
  • ~Shard~ (macrumors P6)
  • alphaod (macrumors P6)
  • simsaladimbamba (macrumors P6)
  • DoFoT9 (macrumors P6)
  • MacNut (macrumors P6)
  • wdlove (macrumors P6)
  • dukebound85 (macrumors P6)
  • iJohnHenry (macrumors P6)
  • -aggie- (macrumors P6)
  • Peace (macrumors G5)
  • Sun Baked (macrumors G5)
  • KnightWRX (macrumors G5)
  • twoodcc (macrumors G5)
  • IJ Reilly (macrumors G5)

How many banned users would still occupy a place in the top 50?
I include retired members, members in time-out, and members whose accounts are active even if they no longer post, but I skip banned members. If I included them, Tallest Skil would have been #34 on the Top 50 and spinnerlys would have been #47. The bot named "MacBytes" (not a real user) would have been #36.

Six month projections: changes in rank

This graph shows who is projected to move up or down over the next 6 months and by how many positions.

By this projection, KnightWRX blows away the field with a 13-slot gain. The only other users up by more than 4 are maflynn and simsaladimbamba, each up 9.

16 members are projected to retain their rank.

The biggest drops are rather small, a 4-slot decrease in rank for bartelby and iGary and edesignuk.

Since a good number post in PRSI, how would the top 50 change with those posts counted.

Columns:
  1. Proj Rank = Projected position in order by post count, 1 (highest) to 50.
  2. Projection End of Time = members with the 50 highest projected post counts as time goes to infinity, based on a computed post rate.
  3. Weighted Rate = # posts per day by that member as a cascading weighted average, giving 50% weight to the most recent 6 months, 25% to the previous 6 months, 12.5% to the previous 6 months, and so on, with adjustments made based on the length of membership. See the definition of weighted rate that I've used since July 2006.
  4. Cur Rank = current rank, as of January 2013, or "---" for those who are not in the current Top 50.
  5. Delta Rank = projected change in rank, i.e., # of slots +higher or -lower in rank from now until the end of time.
  6. Last EOT = rank in End of Time projections from 6 months ago (July 2012, Chart #3), or "---" for those who were not in the previous End of Time Top 50.
  7. Delta EOT = change in rank from End of Time projection 6 months ago to End of Time projection now.

These are the true "top posters" at MacRumors, since they currently make the most posts over any given time period.

I'm always surprised that so few members can manage to make 3 or more posts per day, given that there are at least 400 new threads they could get involved with each day (and often 600 or 700). Get involved in a passionate debate and you can easily find yourself with half a dozen or more posts in a single thread. But I guess I shouldn't be so surprised. What limits people is the relentless march of time. It's easy to make a few posts when you visit the forums, but only the more dedicated forum members spend the time to make 20 posts each and every week or 90 posts each and every month.

Observations

  • The Top 3 retain their positions from the previous End of Time rankings.

  • GGJstudios leads the pack as the only member making over 30 posts/day, retaining his lead in this category. What's he saying in all those posts? You might be surprised that most of his posts are in the Mac-related forums, often giving advice to other users. Forum regulars often spot his posts in Site and Forum Feedback but those posts are actually in the minority.

  • simsaladimbamba (ranked #2) is the only other member making over 20 posts/day. Applejuiced (ranked #3) is right behind.

  • Macman45 (ranked #4) is new to the End of Time Top 50. He joined in July 2011 but has quickly made his mark. Intell (ranked #8), who joined in January 2010, is also new to the End of Time Top 50. Neither is in the current Top 50.

  • Three other users (maflynn, KnightWRX, and Jessica.) make at least 10 posts/day.

  • Others new to the End of Time Top 50: SandboxGeneral, KPOM, labman, mrsir2009, wordoflife, ECUpirate44, Geckotek, darngooddesign, MorphingDragon, Night Spring, chrono1081, old-wiz, Tomorrow, and saving107.

  • The 16 new End of Time Top 50 members replaced 16 members who dropped off the list. Among the latter, only Consultant (formerly #22) was in the top half of the list 6-months ago. Consultant is still posting, but less than once per day instead of a few posts per day as in the past.

  • Only saving107 has been able to make the list with less than 3 posts/day. Last time 7 users accomplished this.

  • Of the Top 50 posters, Chupa Chupa has been a member the longest (since July 2002) and Macman45 joined most recently.

End of Time projections: changes in rank

This graph shows the changes in rank from the End of Time projections from 6 months ago to the End of Time projections now. In other words, it shows rank changes based on changes in the post rate of each member.

Seven members are projected to hold their spots in the End of Time Top 50. This chart shows only members who were in both Top 50 lists. That's why you see more drops than gains. Those moving down the list were displaced by the newbies I mentioned above.

Goal for next 6 months. Make sure this prediction can't happen by posting too much.

I'd probably have to increase my posting by an absurd amount in order to mess it up though.

Goal for the next 6 months. Give SilentPanda an absurd amount of reminders for frivolous posts. :p
Is that not a waste of time? ;-)

Where bunnies are welcome.
I am & I've even e-mailed you twice ... no response. Glad you're above ground.

You emailed me at my private email?

Edit: I'll answer my own question. I just looked at my private email, and you sent me something back in October. So Sorry. I only use that email address for signing up for stuff like this, so I RARELY check it (besides the fact that it gets massive spam or loads of emails from the accounts I used that address for). As far as PM goes when the mailbox is full...I guess they just go to the void, since they aren't there. Thanks for caring.
