I have a 2011 Mac mini... was the standard i5 model... I upgraded it to 8 GB of RAM right away. But I've recently wanted to upgrade it some more (maybe add an SSD also) to 16GB.

I bought the GEIL 16GB 2x8GB PC10660 SO-DIMM kit, and it boots to three beeps.

Before I go about getting an RMA and trying with another pair, or another brand... anyone else experience problems upgrading to 16GB? If no, what brand/speed did you have success with?

okay out of the many 2x 8gb sticks i have used geil had 1 bad pair out of 4 pairs. the rma worked fine.

I would not use corsair. But they ones I used were good 3x 8gb sticks.

I used a lot of 1333 gskill 8gb sticks they were good.

I used some elpida sticks. 2 or 3

i used kingston sticks. 8 or 10.

for the 2011 machines almost every stick of ram from every company worked.

you are using 1333 sticks correct?

All of the above is for 1333 sticks of ram in 2011 mac minis

This mini year (2011) was the best mini for liking different ram sticks even a little better then the 2012.

Yea, 1333MHz sticks... although, technically the spec is for 10600 and I used 10660... but I think I've read about others have success with them.

You should have purchased on Black Friday. I got 2x8GB sticks for about $55 or somewhere around there including tax and shipping. It was a breeze to upgrade and no issues. I got it through the newegg.ca sale.

Even now, Newegg has 16GB upgrade kits for sub-$50. Besides my old PowerBook G4, none of the macs I've used or serviced for family/friends have been finicky or picky with RAM. That said, I generally try to stick with established brands since the prices are generally within a few dollars at most, but I've had success with off-brands like Avexir as well.

I use 16 GB Gskill memory in my 2011 mini, and not an issue one with them. Got them on sale but have not looked them up lately from Amazon
