Hardest gen to fix?

What is the hardest iPod touch generation to fix? I've never done it before, but would like to try it so that I can make some money. I'd like to start with an easier one though.

I just got a 3rd gen iPod touch with a broken screen. It still functions though. I'm not exactly sure what screen replacement parts to buy for it though because I heard that the 8 and 16 or 32 gb versions of the 3rd gen are different. I have an 8 gb version. I heard the 8 gb needs a 2nd gen screen. Is this true?

Would someone mind giving me an Amazon link to something that would work for this?

Technically it exists, but it's internally identical to the 2G touch.
