I feel bad for spending over 100$ in accessories for my iPhone 5 with the fast approaching Galaxy S4. I miss the LED notification, being able to call a contact who just texted me simply by raising the phone to my ear, etc. etc.

If I could go back in time...one month I would lol. With the Galaxy S4 coming in March I'm probably ditching the iPhone for good and just keeping the iPad. Might give it away for free to my mom who knows :)

That's nice honey

You know, you could always sell the iPhone 5 and use that money to buy a brand new Galaxy S4 when it comes out. You probably won't even lose any $$ in the process since Android phones are worth less :)

With all the popularity that the Galaxy series have been getting, I wouldn't be surprised if the value of the phone is higher than the iPhone 5.

A used 4S still brings in more than a new S3 costs, do you really think this will change with the S4?

Question, do you also consider putting your GS2/3 screen facedown on any surface a feature? Cause by the look of this thread most people seem to assume that I want these "features" if apple had advertised them as magical.

How ridiculous, I don't consider putting my phone screen facedown a feature, when I can just pick up the phone and press Decline.

I wonder what happens if someone calls as you're about to lie down in the sofa. Would the S3 then quiet the call because it believes you're putting it face down?

I hear yea - I just wrote a post similar.

Interesting that a newer version SIIII is coming - I didn't see that Yet.
How the Heck can it be any better.

OLED is the best screen possible.
Those into Photography have a clue -

I stopped at Verizon earlier tonight - 8 seconds later - G SIII from notes is in my hands -
and the real time demo was nothing less that amazing.

I told them my pet peeves about BlueTooth BS of 5 Yr Old executive Rule mentality of what we Can't Do -
I'm flat out throwing in the Towel as well.
Tired of the BS limitations. Too far Left for Me.

Iv'e spent too much time in Europe over the Years.
I want My Freedom Back.
And that's the whole ball of wax with these kinds of limitation rules -
like we're supposed to comply - WTF?

At This Age - twice that of most here - We for FK Sakes - get Fussy -
The sandbox crew will get over it.

Simply - if I Want the FKG file - It's Mine in Real Time.
Not when some entity says so.

SO I take it -
Common sense hit iSensei as well.

Why would you need a "feature" which is to call someone just by raising the phone to your ear? Can't you take 4 seconds to open the contact list and select the contact you want to call?

Those kind of features are so...stupid.

Is that a serious post? Why would you rather take 4 seconds going through various menus when you can just lift the phone to your ear, which is exactly what you need to do to make a call anyway?

Seems like you're attacking an intuitive feature just because its not in the iPhone.

Edit: having a call button in the conversation window in the message app would be just as useful. :)

So, you don't like Apple because you feel the lack of Bluetooth file transfer is socialism?

Huh?

Siri has had Raise to Speak since the 4S came out.

I use it all the time to place calls, and do everything else Siri can do.

Although sometimes I find it easier to just hold down the home button and use Siri that way.

The person I replied to asked why you would want to be able to raise the phone to your ear when you're viewing a message to call that person, when you can just exit the messages app, go into the phone app, find the contact and call them.

Clearly simply raising the phone to your ear is much easier.

His post had nothing to do with Siri's raise to speak feature, but I agree it's useful :)

There is a call button in the message app. At the top of the message. Just tap the time to scroll to the top then select call.

There's no need to exit to another app if that person is in your contacts. You can FaceTime, call, or email them all from the top of the screen in iMessage.

Thanks guys. I actually forgot that was there because I spend most of the time scrolled to the bottom of the conversation, not the top. It's not really a great place to put it because it's hidden when you have more than a few messages!

They should make that part always visible, or just add a small button with options similar to the forward button when you're viewing a photo in the gallery.

What features on the iPhone are considered smart then?

----------

So I guess the notification center is "stupid" since people aren't clicking on each individual app to check their calls, messages, calendars but instead swiping down to check everything at once. Lazy.......

For me, those kind of features are useless and I bet most people brag about it although most of the time they don't even use it. Like I said, it's MY opinion and its worth what its worth.

Good design is meant to make your life easier. Just because the iPhone does things a certain way doesn't mean it's the way they should be done. It's certainly not lazy to respond to good design, especially if it keeps you off of your phone (a device that can be more of an obstruction to productivity than anything else).

I like these critical threads. It's important to stay in realty and to keep informed.

I like things simple and don't need a certain "feature" like this when I can just open the app and click the name of the person I want to call.

If Apple invented that then it would be "magical" or "genius"...Lol. It's actually quite useful. The "stay awake" feature is also quite useful.

The "stay awake" feature may be useful, I don't doubt it. Apple is good at marketing and many people believe the company when they say "this is magical because we thought of it this way...". I don't buy into that stuff fortunately for me.

Naa you wouldn't understand.

Glad I don't then.

Fella,

If Apple would have those features on the iphone 5 you'd all be singing and praising Apple for innovation. Jobs was a hypocrite who shafted his friend Wozniak and a greedy fk. Yes, I've owned every single Apple product except Mac Pro and the retina Mbp and the Mini which sucks the big one btw and I do love em but $1000 for a phone cause it has a bitten fruit on its back...give me SOME innovation. Where's the charity money jobs donated? Latest tech my ass, as far as phones go get an Android, you'll be happier. iPhone USED to be cool and innovative, not anymore. iPhone is turning into BlackBerry. iPhone 4 ruled man...those were the days.
It's cause of Apple nerds and brainwashed idiots that Apple executives don't need toilet paper anymore. Siri was God like, Google Now is the answer these days.

I like Apple products. Period. I don't care about what they do or did, as long as their products work, that's what I care about since I pay them to give me a working product.

I feel offended that you call me lazy for using such feature, it works pretty well and sometimes I just forget to press on call to call the person I want to. The amount of times I thought I pressed call on the iPhone only to realize I forgot to do so, this does not happen anymore.

Didn't mean to offend you and If you use and like that feature, good to know. Still, I stand by my opinion on the "feature" subject.

Is that a serious post? Why would you rather take 4 seconds going through various menus when you can just lift the phone to your ear, which is exactly what you need to do to make a call anyway?

It is a serious post and I'm not attacking anyone. I'm not a fanboy, far from it. Even If the iPhone had this feature, I guarantee you I wouldn't use it. Just like Siri, never use it since I don't need it, takes too much time to open this, do that. Also, I don't have to go through "various menus" since the iPhone is not like that, for me at least. I don't mind at all spending a few seconds to take the time to get and do what I want, a few seconds aren't going to kill me or put me off something in my life during that time.

Just seems like you're dismissing an easier and more intuitive way of accomplishing something for no good reason.

Why wouldnt you use that feature? What's better about your way?

When I said "various menus" I meant various screens really, just worded it wrongly. Using your method, you need to back out of the messages app, find the phone/contacts app and open it, then scroll to your contact, call them and lift the phone to your ear. Using the lift-to-ear method, you just lift your phone to your ear and the phone dials that person.

Your method has about three steps before you actually have to lift the phone to your ear (which is EXACT action you have to use to dial immediately on the Galaxy S3)... so even if you don't find it difficult, there's no good reason to take those extra steps.

Surely you can see why I'm skeptical that you wouldn't use it if it was in the iPhone.

I agree with that. I used to forget because my call rate is really low. I wouldn't mind a smaller action button at the bottom but only if it eliminated the buttons at the top. No need to add more clutter to the interface. My only problem is I wouldn't want more clutter on the bottom either. For me, I guess it's ok where it is only because my call rate is so low.

Wow. That was circular.

I never said my way is better, it's just better for me. And I don't need to exit the messages app, at the top there is an option to call directly that person which is the method I use.

You didn't make that clear by saying "open the contacts list and select the contact you want to use" which implies you exit the app, open the contacts app and scroll to find the contact you want to use - which is more longwinded than the method you're now saying you use :p

I'll ruin the surprise for you - it's not. iPhone 5 is still more valuable on the resale market, at least in my city.

As someone that trades/sells phones quite a bit, I can confirm this. The iPhone 5 resale (for a 16gb) is still well over $500 (the cheapest I've seen one go for is $515). However, you can find mint S3's all day long in the $375-$400 range.

Just last night I completed a trade to get an iPhone 5 16gb for my One X+ and I still had to add $125 in cash to make the deal work. That's an even trade.

You ever see a flash go off in a dark car at night? It reflects off the windshield and you can also blind those in another car coming towards you. An LED flash is much brighter than the light from a phone screen. The half-ass iPhone "LED notification" is dangerous and poorly thought out. Even in day time if you have your iPhone faced down on a desk, it can blind you. It's just another example in a long line of poor design by Apple lately.

Guess you missed the point. The screen lights up to notify you, very subtle and not blinding but def gets my attention without distracting me. Why would you use the LED flash in a dark car when the lockscreen lighting up would suffice?
