Fan or Hard drive ?

I have a new late 2012 27" iMac and it sounds like the fan is pretty loud. I will most likley just deal with it because my computer always remains cool and has no screen issues. Though I began to think. Could it be the hard drive making the noise? how could i tell?😀

Download smcFanControl. Then look at the rpm of the fan. If they are high (>3200rpm) then it is the fan.

I have it always says around 1200 rpm.

Then its the hard drive.

It couldnt just be a loud fan? THe noise could be be confused for either.

Your fan is running at 1200rpm, which makes it not the problem. Like I said, if it were running at higher than 3000rpm, then yes it might've been. Not this case.
