Preventing files from being copied/taken off computer
Hi,
I have a 2012 iMac running on OSX 10.6 that I share with another person. I have a bunch of digital media files on it (like mp4 and avi files) that I'd like to make available to myself and the other person I share the computer with, but I want to secure those files and make it is either impossible or difficult enough to dissuade someone from trying to copy them onto an external drive. I've tried locking the folder in which they're stored in, making an alias of the original file and then have the original file stored in a hidden folder (but then all you have to do is right click the alias and Show Original and the hidden folder just opens up!) and I've tried changing the Sharing & Permissions in the folder info to no avail. Could anyone offer up any other simple or creative solutions to my issue? |

I must be mistaken by this assumption, but I thought that any documents within your own home directory are not accessible by other users. Am I wrong?
The only thing I can think of is if the other users on the system are also administrator accounts. If that's the case, then can you make the other user(s) standard users? And if so, wouldn't that correct the problem? |
