Great deal on 16gb ram upgrade @ New Egg

This is the exact Ram I bought about 2 weeks ago for my new 2.3 i7. I know a lot of people are partial to the Crucial RAM, but the G.Skill has been flawless so far and has remarkable reviews at NewEgg.

I bought it for $79 and it's onsale for $64.99 (free shipping).

Awesome, thank you CtotheP. I have been looking and waiting for a good deal to get 16GB for my mini. This happens to be the perfect deal. I have had G.Skill RAM in the past and never had issues. Very happy with the deal as I was expecting to spend ~$85 rather than $65 for 16GB.

Now if only you could find me a great deal on a Samsung 830 or 840 Pro SSD.

RAM sure is cheap!

In 1993, I bought myself a PC in mid 1993 equipped with 8 MB RAM at $70 a stick, down from $85 a few weeks before. Later, in late 1994, I bought 8 more at $32 each - I had an A.i.R. motherboard that had a special slot allowing use of 16 SIMMS on an expansion card. Anyway the price was already falling fast!

Mid 1993
At $70 per MB, cost for 16GB, we get $70 * 1024 * 16 = $1,146,880.

Late 1994
At $32 per MB, cost for 16GB, we get $32 * 1024 * 16 = $524,288.

Another way of looking at it. At 16GB/$65, we get $0.000003783498 / MB.

Disk space is another story ...

Looks like its back up to $82.99. I picked this same RAM up for $59 a month ago and it has been running flawlessly!

Awesome. Happy to hear you have had no issues. That is great.

It sure is amazing how much RAM prices can fluctuate over a few weeks. Guess part of that is if you can get the RAM while on sale or not.

I should note that I ordered the RAM yesterday afternoon and got my tracking info this AM. Newegg has always been a great company to deal with.

you know im such an idiot. i logged onto newegg and saw that deal too awhile back but i didnt pull the trigger. I actually had 2 in my cart for 32 gb for 88 bucks but i never checked out. now i regret it.

My 16GB kit from New Egg came in the mail today. RAM swap took 5 min at most. The ran "Remember" and everything checks out perfectly. Then ran Geekbench because I was curious and saw my benchmark jump from 11545 to 11971. Next upgrade, just need to save up for a SSD whether the 256GB Samsung 840 Pro or that new 1TB SSD that is coming out for $600.

They just had a deal over slickdeals thru ebay daily deals for 256gb samsung 830 for like $149 shipped no tax!

Wow that is an amazing deal. I assume that deal is long gone. Oh well, wish I had known about it as I would have jumped on it. I know you can get still get the Samsung 830 256gb for ~$195 online which really isn't too bad. But really, if a 1TB with 500 mb/sec read and 400 mb/sec write is going to be available for $600, that could very well be the answer for me. Just trying to decide at this point.

Yeah I searched slickdeals for the Samsung 830 and the most recent cheapest was $170.

But they did have a Samsung 840 on slick deals for $149.99 which might be the deal you were thinking about?

The Samsung 840 is a nice drive (especially at that price), but I would rather have the 840 Pro, the 830 or that Crucial 1TB I believe. Plus, it looks I am too late as that 840 deal on eBay has sold out.

Rember only tests a very limited subset of the memory, depending on what other processes are running. If you want to use the same base tool that rember uses (memtest - http://www.memtestosx.org/ better packaged at http://www.command-tab.com/2008/01/11/how-to-test-ram-under-mac-os-x/), you should really install the command line version and boot OS X up in single user mode to make sure as little RAM as possible is used by anything else.

Also, I would actually recommend to run Memtest86+ booted from a USB stick if possible, and leave it over night to go maybe 3-4 passes... This will be a bit more thorough.

I did not really find the output from Memtest (the one used by Rember) to be that easy to interpret, whereas Memtest86+ is very clear when it finds any errors...

I am ok with Remember. It went through enough of a test for me to make me happy and comfortable that the sticks are good. That is all I wanted or needed. Add in the Mini recognizing the RAM and everything working perfectly. Plus, the RAM has lifetime warranty. I just wanted to run Remember so that I would be stuck with some chips that were on the fritz and might give me issues a few days/weeks into it. Did everything I wanted it to do. I'm not a geek, so I don't need the info that Memtest86+ might offer me.
