Lost passcode for iPod touch.

My cousin was given a newer iPod touch that a roommate of a friend left in thier old apartment, we don't have the passcode for it and need a way to get into it. I saw some method on youtube about plugging it into iTunes, holding down the home and power button and waiting for ten seconds, but I also saw people in the comments saying you still needed the passcode for that method...can anybody shed some light on the subject?

Just ask the cousin to ask the old roommate? I'm sure he/she would still have their number

No, she moved to California and doesn't speak to any of us anymore, thanks for the NON help though. We figured it out.
