Image Retention Retina Macbook Pro Owners
Did you just settle with having image retention with your LG Retina Macbook Pro or did you return it?

I've only recently noticed a little in mine and think I will return it sometime this year. Consider the cost, you didn't pay for a substandard product, you paid for the best and you should have that from day one.

I returned it and bought something else. If they don't resolve their issues then it's best to vote with your wallet.

Is this still an ongoing problem - is Apple still shipping units with LG panels that are susceptible to IR?
Also, is the IR something that will come out over time or if it's there then you will be able to notice it from day 1? |

You won't always be able to see it under normal usage for the first few weeks, but many have also reported that the IR has popped up after a while. Therefor many run these stress tests to make sure their panel don't suffer from IR. Though even that isn't a 100% reassurance that the screen won't show some effects of it after a while. The safest bet is to get a Sammy screen imo.

I voted yes, though in fact I returned once, got a second LG with serious image retention during normal use, and then had to live with that for a couple months until I could be without it for a few days, then had the screen replaced. The new Samsung panel I got is lovely.

Did you buy your rMBP recently?
---------- Agreed, but how can you guarantee one without playing the "receive and replace" game in case you get an LG panel in Apple's screen lottery? What happened to Sharp btw, weren't they supposed to become 'best friends' with Apple and supply them with everything from iPad screens to reports of Apple's own TV sets? |

Just curious and a possible hypotheses, but if these things can come out over time then wouldn't Apple be fitting Samsung panels in Macbooks ordered with the 3yr Apple Care plan?
Has anyone ordered one recently with the optional plan and received an LG panel? |

Some LG screens are known to start showing IR after a few weeks to a few months!!! Keep an eye on that thing!

This poll seems to relate only to rMBP's with IR issues, is that right?

IR only started to show on my old LG panel after almost 6 months of usage. Sent it for repair ASAP and got it back 20 days after with a Sammy screen. No issues so far. |

Just over a year ago when I was purchasing a Macbook Air for my lady I remember that there was a lot of commotion about two issues: 1) the panel (LG/Samsung) -and- 2) the SSD drive (Toshiba/Samsung)
Apparently the ideal solution was to get the Samsung panel and the Samsung SSD. So if all parts had an equal chance of being used, the chances of getting a Sammy in both areas was 25%. Luckily that's what I got. ![]() What's the case with the SSDs in current Macbook Pro (retina) machines? Are we also playing the lottery game here in addition to the panel or is the SSD no longer an issue? |

Does the IR issues ONLY show up in grey areas, or do you start noticing them in other areas/colors?
