Well Saints drew, could've been a much worse start for Pochettino! Only been there for a few days though so time will tell.
 
I'm rather familiar with Adkins – prior to Southampton he was at Scunthorpe, who fall in our local radio station's catchment area. As such, his was a common voice on the local radio on our way to and from matches.

In all honesty his interviews often bored us to tears (heh) but he still came across as a very decent and positive man. His record at both Scunthorpe and Southampton speaks for itself, and I'm at a bit of a loss as to why the Saints wanted rid of him, especially as they looked to have turned a bit of a corner.

But then again, it's not uncommon for changes in manager to apparently defy logic. I get the clear impression it's not been a popular decision with your fellow supporters, skippymac.

You're not kidding there, however it was a really good game today, could even have been a win with a bit more luck, and it seems the players like him so you never know, this could be a good thing... Still sorry to see Adkins go though 🙁
 
As a Saints fan I have a lot of mixed emotions about Adkins leaving the club, very grateful to the man for getting us to the PL but at the same time, I haven't been sure for a while whether he is the man to realise the ambitions that it appears we have for the future.

@ Jaffa Cake completely agree with you on post match interviews and pre match press conferences. I went out of my way to avoid what the man said, it's great that he's positive and everything, but when you repeat yourself over and over about 'playing the football, keeping the football, and what a talented young player x is, Gaston - isn't he exciting?' it begins to grate on you - it just made it sound like he didn't really know what he was talking about.

I'm not sure that this was much of a surprise to him, or even, if it wasn't part of some plan - for a long time (the day we got promoted) Adkins started talking about a parting of ways between him and the club, and lets face it, he has left the club with an very good win % when we were in a decent run of form, he is going to walk into any side at the top of the Championship and give them a good crack at promotion. Had he gone within the first 12 games, we would probably have seen him out of work for a while.

However, I think it's clear by the amount of money Mr Cortese is spending on both the training ground and big signings that we aren't a club that wants to survive in the Premier League, but thrive. Pochettino may be a relatively 'unknown figure' at the moment, but there was word that he was being lined up for a future position at Real Madrid.
 
Good on Bradford but to me this is as far as they go. I don't see them beating Swansea or more realistically Chelsea.

In other news. Utd and City are apparently set to fight it out for Begovic.

Bayern are interested in Suarez.
(Didn't Suarez just sign a new contract?)

Monsieur Wenger is looking to land David Villa for £10m.
(Not sure about this one. The guy just had a major injury and is the wrong side of 30)

I much prefer the Diame rumour for £7m.

Then we have M'Villa joining Rubin Kazan Why anyone under 30 would go to Russia to play football is beyond me.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard has just been sent off at the Liberty for apparently booting a ball boy in the ribs. Extraordinary scenes.

Columbus Crew just got a Brazilian - player, that is.

Gláuber Berti, an old Man City reject, is our new right back. He is largely famous for signing with Man City and then almost not playing for them at all. But he does in fact seem to have potential to replace the recently departed (and effective) Sebastian Miranda in that position.

Chelsea are just 10 minutes plus stoppage away from getting knocked out...😱

I'll be pleased to see Swansea in Europe too, but I'm rooting for Bradford all the way.

I'd take a pay cut to go just about anywhere else. A cushy transfer to Monaco or another Mediterranean club would be worth the lost wages and more.
 
It does look like it will be a Bradford vs Swansea final. In which case Bradford have more of a chance.

I sympathise with Hazard. ball boy was acting like a right tosser. But still no excuse to kick him.
 
Have we just witnessed the first instance of a ball boy diving? Is no part of the game safe anymore? 😀

Just watched the incident...unless that boy has broken ribs he was seriously hamming it up there. Obviously it was stupid of Hazard to kick him, but my word...can't wait for the next round of podcasts. 😉
 
Word is John Terry has already left the dugout to go and offer a private apology to the ballboy's mum. Awkward.
 
All over. Its gonna be Bradford vs Swansea at Wembley. And then the winner gets relegated the following season. 😛
 
Both finalists have actually played good football to get here, and both really want to win it. So it should be a welcome change from the usual all-top Division final where a top four team has its way with a mid table pretender.
 
Agreed. Should be fun to watch.

EDIT: Also pretty much guarantees that Benitez will be fired at the end of the season...maybe earlier.

The commentator types keep highlighting how far Swansea have risen from football's dank depths by mentioning how they were facing the ignominy of playing us ten years ago. Heh.

Personally, I've come to the conclusion that Benitez was hired to be a sacrificial lamb - he will preside over a bunch of player turnover and he, rather than Abramovich, will be blamed for it by the fans. A convenient target.

Fair play to you Rafa; you'll walk out of there with a huge pile of cash for your troubles.

Just saw the Hazard incident. What the heck was going on there? Can somebody give it some context, I could only find a clip. Bizarre!

Found a better video. What was Hazard thinking? The kid hammed it up and knew he was delaying the game, but that was unreal. Never seen anything like it. Hazard deserved the red, but the Kid should've gotten a yellow, too.
