I'm completely new to iOS development and have just bought a second hand Mac for the work I have in mind. As advised by the literature I've been reading, I've registered with Apple as a designer and went to download Xcode, SDK etc. The App Store came back with the message that my operating system is unsuitable. I appear to have Brick on my machine. Please can someone tell me what version of Xcode I should get? And what version of SDK do I need? Or would I be able to upgrade the operating system to suit current Xcode? Or is none of this possible and I have wasted all my money? ..... Ooh I hope not!
Many thanks, Brian I have discovered that my operating system is not Brick (that appears to be the name of the start-up disk! - silly me) it is OSX 10.6.8 AKA Snow Leopard. Apart from that, the question is the same as above. Can someone help please? Brian Last edited by B D Littlewood; Jan 1, 2013 at 09:03 AM. Reason: I need to correct a silly mistake in my question. |

As far as I'm aware the current SDK and Xcode require at least OS X Lion or above, so you will have to upgrade to either 10.7 or 10.8 to use the App Store version of the tools

Latest releases:
Xcode 4.2: Supports Mac OS X 10.6, iOS 5.x, 4.x (and maybe 3.x). Does *not* support iOS 6, the iPhone 5's resolution, or the Retina iPad (3/4)'s resolution. Xcode 4.5: Supports Mac OS X 10.7/10.8, iOS 4.3, 5.x, 6.0.x Does *not* support anything below iOS 4.3. Xcode 4.2 was available for a brief period of time for $4.99 on the Mac App store. If you did *not* buy it then, your only option now to get it from Apple is to pay the $99 developer fee. I did pay for it, so when I load the Mac App Store, it lists "Xcode" (the current version) and "Xcode for Snow Leopard". Then again, I also pay the $99 developer fee, so 4.2 for Snow Leopard is listed along with a lot of other builds of Xcode to download. |
