iPhone 5 Camera pics not full screen?

You could stick any lens you want on there, it wouldn't change anything. If the sensor isn't 16:9, you can't get a 16:9 picture from it without cropping.
 
So simple

When you want 16:9 still photos just set the camera to video and click the white button. Delete the video, keep the photo. So easy. You have both the option for the format used in printing and wide screen in one camera. Only a fandroid would suggest returning the phone.
