I never finished HL1 when it first came out. Finally got around to playing it on Steam a few years ago and yeah, it's kind of amazing isn't it? Really holds up after all these years.

I noticed Half Life appearing last night. I was going to test it, but my install got borked by the update that they pushed yesterday. (You need to reinstall the client if this happened to you) While I'm sure a lot of people are happy Half Life is finally on the Mac, I'm much more interested in them getting DOTA 2 ported. I also hear that there are still some significant issues with CS:GO that aren't fixed that really should be prioritized.

What about existing owners? Does it allow you to install it or is it a different copy like Borderlands 1 did allowing the GOTY edition to be installed on Macs but not the regular edition.

When I click, I get the Steam launch box, but that disappears and nothing happens. If I look under Window, it shows it there, but if I go to it, nothing.

Notice the company took their time to port this old game over to the Mac just so they can sell them for cheap. They care about customers, not money. Making games free for a limited time before they make a sequel... thats great marketing that makes everybody happy!

Same thing. I click to launch HL, the window pops up that says it's preparing to launch, then it just disappears.

I can confirm that the following are available for Mac, I am downloading them right now:
Half Life (Beta)
Counter Strike (Beta)
Day of Defeat
Deathmatch Classic
Opposing Force
Blue Shift
Ricochet
Team Fortress Classic

All of these came up when I activated the CD Key from my old Windows copy of Half Life Generation.

Edit: Ok, maybe not.... only Counter Strike (Beta) seems to run... the others, despite allowing the game files to download, wont launch.

I can't even get ones that are not marked beta to download. Under status, they are listed as Not available.

Hopefully that means the beta will be expanded to the rest of those titles.

Control-click Half-Life Beta in the Library list and choose "Create Desktop Shortcut". Then double click the shortcut to launch.

That work-around, um, works, for me.

I have the same issue. At first I would load it and it was just be a bright green screen. Then after a few times of reloading it, nothing would come up. Now it's back to the green screen.

Funny! I deliberately stopped playing the game, about half-way through, on a Windows box 10 or 12 years ago in anticipation of eventually finishing it on the Mac I had at home, as I thought surely the Mac version would be out soon!

The Mac version is not available in Australia yet. Oh well. I have waited for it since 2010 so I can wait for another day or two. It would have been better if the Source remake was the version released but at least this is the authentic Half-Life experience.

Looking forward to the Steambox in the next couple of years. Hopefully all the Half-Life games will be available on that when it gets released, including the mythical Half-Life 3.

I took the train ride in the beginning of the game and got my answer when I looked at Barney - it's the HD Barney. Doesn't that mean it's Half-Life: Source? I can't see Valve porting the original HL1, which ran on an entirely different engine than the one they've already ported to OS X for HL2.
