That she does't like. Seems she doesn't care for the reading list icon. I think maybe she accidently hits.

I looked at the customize tool bar feature, but to no avail.

Is there a way to remove it? Other than this little thing she loves it.

after selecting "customize toolbar" under view, you're supposed to be able to drag and remove the reading list icon from the toolbar. strange that you can't.
 
Reading List

Safari Preferences, Bookmarks.
Uncheck Reading List

Or, turn the bookmarks bar off.

Done.
