Try testing the RAM with memtest86+ to rule out that it's defective. Also note that the 2.4GHz is especially picky when it comes to RAM.

The mid-2010 Mac Mini will run 1333MHz RAM, and so will any other GeForce 320M-based Mac (mid-2010 MacBook and 13" MBP). In that case, try G.Skill FA-1333C9D-16GSQ for Mac.

Hi Giuly,

Memory looks good, keep in mind that I'm testing this on a 2010 MacBook pro
I7. I dont think that running a faster ram will do the trick.
Did try booting again with the 16Gb, still not able to boot normally. Got a couple of screen grabs of the errors. Getting the idea that the main culprit is the efi...
But if you guys have any good and useful ideas keep it coming!

The 15" and 17" use a different northbridge (Intel vs. Nvidia MCP89), which doesn't support 16GB (as posted by Orlandoech.com and T5BRICK).

But since it is not supported, why is it booting fine in safe mode having 16 GB (2x8GB) installed? Both chips are listed correctly.
Is it maybe because safe mode does not allocate the whole memory? (something like the maxmem argument at boot?)

Have you tried using that specific g-skill in the mid-2010 MB, 13" MBPro & Mac mini?

I installed FA-10666CL9D-8GBSQ onto the mid-2010 13" MBPro Core 2 Duo (P8800). It would turn on and the spinning gear would spin for a few seconds then it freezes.

I did use the FA-1333C9D-8GSQ in the mid-2010 Mac Mini, and it was recognized as 1333MHz and ran without any hiccup for a year. At the time, there were no 8GB DIMMs (or at least only from OWC at a price of about $350 per module). Both are tailored specifically for the Mac, and as the Mac Mini supports 16GB from what we know, this RAM should work fine.

See my Geekbench result, it states 1333MHz RAM for the MacMini4,1 (mid-2010).

I have read alot on the 2010 13 inch macbook pro since I have it and planned to upgrade. In the end i ended up getting 1067 mhz memory from OWC. they have a specific 16gb kit that is known to work with 13 inch 2010 macbook pros. I have read many many failed attempts with 1333mhz ram. I would not suggest that ram at all. I read almost 24 pages of people with failed results of that type of memory. it needs to be the lower 1067 memory.

I am happily running 16gb of ram (thanks OWC) . windows 6 64 bit boot camp also shows all the memory being utilized.

Back in mid-2010, my 2.66GHz Mac Mini with the FA-1333C9D-8GSQ was the fastest Mac Mini that Geekbench had on file.

It appears that the FA-1333C9D-8GSQ isnt being made any more. It has since been replaced with the FA-10666CL9D-8GBSQ.

FA-10666C9D-8GBSQ is one 8GB stick, the FA-1333CL9D-8GSQ is a 2x4GB kit (which is what I was using in the Mac Mini), and the FA-1333C9D-16GSQ is the 2x8GB kit variant.

A simple Google search shows nothing on the FA-10666C9D-8GBSQ you refereed to.

FA-10666CL9D-8GBSQ is 8GB (4GB x 2) DDR3-1333 (PC3-10666) and does not work with mid-2010 13" MBPro. I've attempted to install two kits and both failed.

FA-1333CL9D-8GSQ is not being sold anymore or was never sold. It does not appear on G.Skill's corporate site. Your link to the FA-1333CL9D-8GSQ points to a 8GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-10666 CL9 SQ Series Dual channel laptop memory kit (2x4GB)

Anyhow the thread is about 16GB of RAM in the mid-2010 13" MBPro. So far everyone who attempted to install 16GB of RAM faster than DDR3-1067MHz failed.

So have you installed FA-1333C9D-16GSQ onto any mid-2010 13" MBPro? Did it work? Unlike the other memory models you wrote the FA-1333C9D-16GSQ actually exists.

Didn't you read the thread? Depends if you can find large enough capacity chips at the correct spec (and are willing to overpay for old speed chips).

16gb ram

Hello guys ! i have a macbook pro i5 2,53ghz 10.8.3 256gb ssd with 4 gb ram.. I want to upgrade it and i am thinking to go 8gb or 16 gb.. i support 1067ghz ram and max 8gb.. I am wondering if i can use 16gb.. and can i also use 1333mhz ? the ideal would be 16gb 1333.. i have read lotssss opinions online.. But i need a valid one ! tnx in advance ! it is mid 2010 17'

Hey guys, sorry about waking up an old thread.

Did anybody try updating the MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo to 16GB in the end?

Thanks for the reply. Indeed, OWC claims this Macbook Pro supports 16GB and they are reputable.

If I finally decide to upgrade, I'll report back.

Out of curiosity (and the fact my own mid-2010 15" i7 is in need of a little speed boost, and I'm in NO WAY able to just buy a new laptop right now), did you ever do the upgrade? If so, how did it work?

- The 15" will only take 8GB.
Consider an SSD if you haven't already installed one.
