Everything is erased. The operating system is reinstalled from scratch and the computer is as if it was brand new.

That will help him with the password, but he should really just do a clean install since it's a computer he purchased used.

Probably not, but it could theoretically have tracking/keylogging software installed. A clean install is the right thing to do.

Which part? Did you get into the recovery tools by holding Command-R at boot?

Did you try 'two' or '2'? How about 'eleven' or '11'?
