It's the way it is...and it comes from the restrictions of hand held portable communications technology: small keyboards, small screens. Part of this lack of grammar is also the fact that people are communicating so rapidly (instantly) with so many others as they multi task themselves into oblivion...while walking down the street? When a culture dashes off so many comments, replies, etc...to so many people...nobody "can take their crap too seriously" on a discussion forum to ever bother with the rigidity of mutally agreed upon rules of communication (grammar, spelling, syntax). Quantity over Quality. People are living their lives in ever widening circles reaching out to anybody and everybody...never knowing who they are talking to, and never really seeing them or hearing the inflection of their voice...or body language. Are people becoming more self absorbed and sloppy? Are we stupidifying ourselves with banalites and empty replies...in an attempt at feeling connected with so many phoney friendslist contacts on Facebook? Is anyone really connected to anybody? It's a fast passed multi tasking world....and grammar and spelling lost out in a mad cap rush to shoot your arrow into the sky as many times.... without a care where the target is, almost as though the mantra "...the unaimed arrow never misses the mark..." has becomed internalized? If the unaimed arrow never misses, then it hit the mark...some mark at some time...no? Should we watch the movie Network, and join Howard Beale sticking his head out the window, screaming, "...I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it anymore..."? One way or another......if you want to laugh at Bill O'Reilly's sloppy Narcississtic facade...find a youtube video called "Bill O'Reilly-King Dildo"...you'll laugh...for sure. ![]() You'll see in this video...O'Reilly repeating Howard Beale, after being sued for sexual harassment. Cheers. |

If you're a beginner like most in this thread there's a reddit post. It showcases how to use the ipad through a quick online ipad tutorial --plus it's from Silicon Valley so it's pretty legit.

Is there a way to search gmail archive easier?
On my MacBook Pro on Gmail when I start typing someone's name they're email address comes up and I get all of the emails by that person. On my iPhone I have to remember their email address and even then it only pulls up a few emails. I just got an iPad and it seems to work the same as the iPhone—is that not true?

I haven't seen this mentioned. Today,I discovered a pretty cool feature when the keyboard is active on the screen, you can float it up or down. I discovered it by accident, and thought it was a bug at first requiring a reboot because the bottom of the keyboard was about an inch above the bottom bezel. But no, the control is right there on the bottom right key. the one that collapses the keyboard when you want to drop it below view.
On the very right of that key are 4 tiny horiz bars, that if you touch and slide upward, the keyboard will float up as far as you push it .. all the way to the top of the screen or anywhere in between. Not sure how to use the feature yet, and if this is common knowledge or not, but if not, it is something we all can play with and find a use for. |

Floating keyboard
Speaking of the floating kb, ScreenCastsOnline ( I believe he calls it SCOTutorials over on yt) says that you can hold your finger (or, I guess, stylus) on the kb disappear button for about 3 seconds, and it will yield a pop up menu, one choice of which is "Split." My iPad 2 won't do it, but the video tutorial shows it. Pretty neat if you're already a thumb-typer, and particularly useful if you're filling out a form or any other thing where you want the main portion of readable material to be in portrait format with the kb still visible for use.

Not sure if I mentioned earlier macanaw but for the same effect of a split keyboard just pull it apart so to speak. One thumb each half of the kb and swipe outwards. Quicker method I would say
