how dare you! 128gb is PURE MAGIC! it's AMAZING innovation!

How dare I? Well I am exercising my 1st Amendment rights to free speech...to say my opinion. Just because you disagree with mine, don't lose your testosterone over it bud....

If you think the Surface Pro is comparable to a MacBook Pro with a 'flip around keyboard' I have a bridge to sell you. But sure, if you want to hedge your bets and talk about the price of technology three years from now, in comparison to something Apple announced today, knock yourself out.

The Surface Pro is precisely what I'm talking about. Its case detaches and becomes a full keyboard and trackpad plus it's a touchscreen and runs the full Windows8 plus tablet apps of the regular surface AND costs under $1000 to start with an i5 CPU (the same one in the bottom of the line Macbook Pro). Other than limited SSD storage on the bottom line model and no Thunderbolt (which I couldn't care less about on my own Mac), it's precisely what I'm talking about.

You and your "bridge" belong in some other Universe because your statements certainly aren't supported by reality in this one. Now please stop wasting my time.

And your evidence of this is . . .

Like adding 128gb model, they could just have easily added lightning without any changes. If there is going to be a March release, they would have saved A6X for that.

My evidence is simple, they upgraded the iPhone to an A6, it wouldn't take much to convert the A6 to an A6X using their experience on the A5X. That's a no brainer. And they had to do something to differentiate it from the 30 pin iPad 3. To simply change the connector would have pissed everyone off just as much as the ipad 4 did. There would have had to be two versions of the ipad in stores. A 3 with 30 pin and a 3 with lighting. It would have been confusing and more for stores to stock. That would not work.

There won't be a March upgrade. That's obvious. They got that upgrade out with the 128gb model. The next upgrade comes summer/fall, with the mini restyle. Course, I don't think the mini 2 will have retina, maybe an A6 processor and 1gb ram. Maybe.

----------

The Surface Pro ... runs the full Windows8 plus tablet apps of the regular surface

Is this supposed to be a plus? Windows 8 (RT) is HORRIBLE!

You and your "bridge" belong in some other Universe because your statements certainly aren't supported by reality in this one. Now please stop wasting my time.

Pretty snarky considering you ARE in an iPad forum talking about Microsoft's toy Surface.

----------

So iPad Mini retina in march

Not a chance.

See refurbished iPads if you want affordable. You're talking about the latest generation of their products. Movie theater tickets are more expensive than renting. You're paying to not wait. Has it ever occurred to you that Apple charges more for higher capacity to make lower capacities affordable?

It didn't occur to me because it's not true. Making some other product affordable has nothing to do with Apple's costs. Apple are paying somewhere between 15 and 20 cents a GB for flash. Their margins are huge. But people pay them, for now.

----------

That's why I vote with my wallet by not buying inflated priced items such as Apple RAM for my Mac mini.

Indeed, that's a good idea. But with most Apple products, and probably all of them in the future, you don't and won't have that option.

Great product - the "keyboard" is mostly a gimmick that comes at additional cost and only 1/3 of advertised storage is available to the end user. Great product, Microsoft! LOL

When you get one, be sure to let us know how wonderful it is. :)

Macbook Pro? No.
11" Macbook Air.

The S°Pro has the same 17W dual-core 1.7GHz Core i5-3317U as the entry level $999 MBA.
The S°Pro is limited to 4GB of RAM (8GB for the 11" MBA), and 128GB of SSD (512GB for the 11" MBA).
But the S°Pro offers multitouch and a 1080p display.
Oh, the $899 entry price point (64GB) is without keyboard cover ($119/129).

Yeah well, they used to call the 13" Macbook just a Macbook. It seems anything is "Pro" these days at Apple even when the specs don't seem to agree.

OK, so it's a touch-screen Macbook Air equivalent and I want touchscreen on a 13" and 15" Macbook Pro (although obviously the air is even thinner and therefore more comparable to a pad to begin with in size). I still don't see the issue. My Brother MFC-J835DW printer has a touch-screen on it even and I only paid $99 for it. I seriously doubt it would cost Apple more than a hundred bucks or so to add the feature and probably a lot less. This would be a good place to start as it costs them almost nothing to implement (same with iMacs as well; there is no reason NOT to do it, IMO) Designing the lid/case so it's reversible as a pad would be a bit trickier, but it's already been done before so it's not exactly rocket science.

The S°Pro is limited to 4GB of RAM (8GB for the 11" MBA), and 128GB of SSD (512GB for the 11" MBA).

640k should be enough for everybody. :D

Seriously, I don't care about details that can easily be altered by the engineering design team at a slight cost increase. The point is Microsoft has beaten Apple to the punch on a no-brainer evolution of the iOS/OSX concept. What would I rather have? A $1400 notebook/pad combo or a $1100 notebook plus a $600-900 pad? It's an unnecessary duplication of technology at this point. I'm sure Apple would prefer to sell you two units instead of one, though.

You mean more of a gimmick than having to type with a god-awful touch-screen keyboard?

As for the space thing, I'm sorry but that's not a Microsoft-centric issue. If you were to load OSX proper onto a 64GB notebook, you'd find a significant amount of that 64GB of space taken up by the operating system also. And until the recent announcement, you couldn't hope to get a 128GB iPad either. My last drive that was 64GB or smaller on a computer was in maybe 1999 when I had a 40GB drive to start? Oh wait. That was an 80GB drive....

None of this is relevant to the idea of simply adding touch-screen capabilities to a Macbook (whatever model) or even an iMac. As long as you still retain the options for a trackpad and/or mouse, it could always be handy for something (anything from cockpit controls on a flight simulator to playing Bejeweled 3 at a pace that is only achievable on an iOS device not to mention Launchpad would make a lot more sense).

But instead of people recognizing that what Microsoft has delivered here is a good idea, they'd rather defend the current status of Apple's products...until the day Apple does release what will basically be the same thing more or less and then the fanboys will praise it to no end in the usual hypocritical fashion.

I once tried out Surface and for me it sucks. That rubber keyboard are very horrible to type on and looks very horrible.

What a Surface is good at... Windows installed?

Well it's a nice device that can do much more than iOS. I have it and the keyboard is fantastisk and the trackpad also. Eventhough it's hard to get used to, that it doesnt have alle the functions my MBA has :)

I have used the Surface RT. It's horrible. Windows 8 is worse than Vista was when it was released. Too many sharp edges on the tablet. Plus I've seen a few reports of that flexible keyboard falling apart at the seems. Cute idea poorly implemented. I am not impressed.

The iPad is getting dangerously close to the Macbook Air 11" in terms of price.

I personally find difficult to justify a $900 price tag in a tablet.

This is surprising to me... I didn't really think there was space for more device storage, only more of an onslaught toward cloud storage.

So now they are never allowed to increase the specs on any of the iPads, iPhones. Macbooks, iMacs, Mac Pros because it is not innovative enough..... do you know how stupid you sound?

Sure they are "allowed" to increase the specs of existing Products, however when thats all the company has done over the past 3 years, you cant question why people feel apple hasnt been innovative enough.

Nearly every new Product launch has been a slight refresh (if you can even call it that) of an existing Product.

Example?

iPhone
iPad
iPod

Not a single major redesign.

So... how would you change the iPad (hardware wise)?

In my opinion Apple should refine and develop holographic technology. They certainly have the capital, and by doing so they would be the first to market with a truly revolutionary product.

That sounds cool, but it doesn't sound like it'd actually help in any meaningful way. :p

And what makes you thing that they don't have that in their Skunkworks division?

I'm sure they do have it in test, somewhere someplace...But in this market, it's all about speed, and that's what they've clearly been lacking.
