Glad you got a good one, boto! It really is mental Apple's QC with these devices. And the worst part is it's really just the screen causing the majority of issues. Not to say there aren't other problems with the 2012 iMac, but it's quite obvious the screen is making up the bulk of the complaints..

Consider yourself lucky that it's just a bad screen. My iMac came with a dead HD. Whenever I get the replacement (could be weeks) I will have to through the whole migration assistant thing with my PC (I lost all of the data transferred to the faulty iMac, thankfully the PC is still here).

"Tell me about it. This 4th one isn't 100% perfect, but I'm so drained from exchanging iMacs I'm not sure I can continue to do it. For the record, I cannot believe I'm on my fourth, especially after my 2009 iMac lasted me three years and was fine on the first try..."

Old conversation between patient and doctor:
Patient: "Doc, it hurts when I do this"
Doctor: "Then don't do that"

Have you considered just returning the iMac -- since every time you unbox one it "hurts" because it doesn't meet your standards -- and instead get a decent Mac Mini and the display of your choice?

I already have a Mac mini. It's great for what it is, but it's nowhere near the power of the iMac, especially the GPU. Also, your "old conversation" analogy makes zero sense. Just sayin'.

Then keep on buyin', and keep on exchangin' -- be my guest.

The new Mini i7/2.6ghz may not be a match for the top-end iMac, but it's quite a dandy little box, indeed. Mine replaced a PowerMac g4/MDD tower that I used for almost 9 years. No regrets...

Not sure your point? I love my mini, too. It's just not an iMac.

This thread has gone quiet, does this mean replacements are trouble free or are people just living with bleed and IR?

I am yet to see a picture of one without bleed can anyone post so we know they exist ?

As someone on the verge of replacing my 2009 machine with a 2012 iMac, this thread is terrifying. Are the 27 inch machines more prone to these screen problems than the 21.5 inch models are? I'm looking to get a 21.5.

No. Speaking for myself I have just given up. I went through 8 machines the final one has less problems but I still have some back light bleed and yellowing.

Good luck.
