Hi i have 2 apple tvs, 2 samsung tvs, a panasonic home theather system and an imac. iam trying to connect my Apple TV to my home theater system and I can't not seem to get it to work... When I play a DVD from the theater it works but not when the TV or apple is on.

Tell us how everything connected. What's connected to what? How to you have everything plugged in?

I use an optical cable from the TV to my surround sound, so anything that's on the TV will play through the speakers if I wish

Here's how I connect my home theater with the following:
ATV2
PS3
WII
Comcast
HDTV
ONKY TX SR806

Coax into comcast and HDMI to ONKYO HDMI1
ATV2 HDMI to ONKYO HDMI2
PS3 HDMI to ONKYO HDMI3
WII Comp to ONKYO Comp
ONKYO HDMI OUT to HDTV HDMI IN

With this setup I am able to manage everything through one HDMI output to the TV which has no speakers and I use the ONKYO in 5.1 SS.

Audio out from the TV requires you to have too many HDMI outs on the TV and also does not allow you to sync your audio and video at the source.
