The guy has a bachelors degree, he should be easily making money. He is either a lazy ass and expects the money to come to him or he is a horrible worker. People with less education can be more successful. Rather than look for a quick buck put your education to use. Otherwise you will just waste your money on going to school again and still not achieve anything.

There is nothing wrong with looking for a job based on salary. Many people do not have a passion in life and will never find that dream job which makes them happy. They work to make money. And there's nothing wrong with that, IMO, as long as they still take some pride in the work they are doing (pride does not equal enjoyment) and do the work right.

absolutely true.....you have bills to pay, so finding a job that pays well is quite a reasonable thing to do.

And there are certainly plenty of people who start down a career path based on "passion" only to find that 20 years later they're both poorly paid and tired of their previous "passion"

Consulting/indie if you can swing it. No matter what you do, if you can specialize in it, and have a good network of customers, you can see more than working for the man. After all, if you allow customers to effectively outsource tasks they would need to spend 100K internally to fill (plus benefits), and you have enough steady customers, you could see 2X what you could earn working just one job in that field.

That being said, you have to put in your dues before you have value as an independent.

Yeah don't say that.

Only go into health care if you really care about what you are doing..otherwise you will be miserable and in debt.

I would love to be a pharmacist and not because of the money. I wanted to be a pharmacist way before they started making 100,000 a year.

Then pursue it. Quit worrying about age. It's your life, do what you want.

Worried about the graduate school debt. The loans are at 8% rate and you can't work while in pharmacy school. But I have to work now.

Well look, here's reality. You aren't going to find any job where you just waltz into a high pay rate without going to graduate school or going back to school and getting a different degree. That's reality.

So it's either go back to school, or hope you can find another job in your field, because otherwise it just isn't going to happen.

Sometimes you have to just do it, and see where life takes you.

Sales and Marketing Jobs are traditionally higher paid than almost any. A good sales person in any industry that is on its ascent will make more than a tenured professor or many physicians for instance.

Its not easy work (what work is though, right?) and the you typically have to pay a lot of dues at less than desirable positions to get the experience for the more lucrative ones, but that is the same in most professions.

These jobs also put you in a position to excel at being an entrepreneur, because you learn so much about the economics of the business.

Beyond these, i really like engineering jobs of any sort these days. The demand for software engineers will only increase in the future.

And what if your passion is something that you can’t make a living off? Making lots of money in another field would allow you to do what you love in your off time :)

Its not everyones first choice but you can go work as an overseas contractor in a war zone. You'll make 6 figures.

That being said its usually 12 hours a day, seven days a week, with some kind of vacation every 4 - 6 months. Many people only last a year or two and you can't bring your family for obvious reasons.

Yup, had a friend do that went three times back to back for the army and to more times as a contractor. He just got out of rehab after spending three years trying to put as much powder up his nose and junk in his veins as possible. Makes me really glad I didn't make the plane from Frankfurt to Dulles.

You know those people with paint brushes that brush off the beach sand from bikini models' rear ends? I think they make 6 figures. And if not, it'd be the bestest job to have regardless.
